(and honestly what a good excuse to go downeast where my family lived for centuries and do something fun and engaging instead of just staying home 'enjoying my mortgage payment' while feeling the crushing weight of late stage capitalism and rampant fascism on my spirits)
For once in my life I've found out about a really cool book event (@blackcatbookfair.bsky.social) where one of my favorite writers/podcasters (@margaret.bsky.social) is speaking at *before it happens* and I haven't been this excited in a long long time
Today was the first time I've ever contacted a politician to THANK THEM which feels surreal but seriously thank you Mills

Take a building challenge back on???
Every part of me wants to flee and it feels so counter intuitive to be going on as normal because I have to
I wish a master's degree and a decade of experience counted for anything but it doesn't
if you, for whatever reason, decided to start some basic home preparedness today, and can only get to a few stores, here's what I'd tell you to get:
-walkie talkies for everyone in your family

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?
hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.
Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.
this is the energy we have to bring into the next four years

Luigi Mangioneβs manifesto does something truly groundbreaking in the genre: it is edited for brevity
notable that Mangione came from a wealthy family, went to a top tier private high school and graduated from one of the country's top universities - exactly the kind of person you would expect to have access to the best care - and this is still the path he went down
I got the Luigi Mangione manifesto. The real one, not the forgery circulating online. www.kenklippenstein.com/p/luigis-man...
Facebook IMMEDIATELY removed my link to @iwriteok.bsky.social's newest sub stack article about Luigi Mangione. Which means you should absolutely read it as soon as possible.
And share it with your friends.

what hasn't worked:
- expecting recall to work at all because snow exists
- offering treats (even when his siblings are getting some)
- any tactic that successfully worked earlier that day/otherwise too recently
- showing him a snuffle mat (specifically ones that are bright yellow or orange. he ignores the other colors)
- a high value plush toy that he hasn't played with recently
- showing him a raw, whole acorn squash
- shaking a can of whipped cream*
* cannot be tricked into not getting some
My malamute loves snow more than anything and requires bribery to come inside (or to be chased until exhaustion). Not just anything will do, though, and something that works once or twice might not work again so I'm having to get creative.
Here's what's worked so far:
I tried to capture just how excited one of my boys is about the snow and yanno... I think this really does capture his energy
For the first time in years I'm no longer a top .002% listener of the Mountain Goats.
Which is not to say that I'm suddenly not traumatized and depressed, I've just expanded my musical palate to include a concerning amount of Noah Kahan and a splattering of queer country and folk punk
