As well as spending twice as much per capita as the UK their life expectancy is several years worse than ours. The difference is that a huge chunk of the money they spend is syphoned off in profit.

I remember the day (and Hungerford before that). I like guns, but am very glad we’re not allowed to have them. As a volunteer for the ambulance service I’ve knocked on nearly 2500 doors, and never once had the slightest fear that I might get shot.

There are many amazing people who are deserving of awards who don’t get them, and many people who do get them who are completely undeserving of them. I can’t imagine why anyone would want an award with the word empire in the title anyway. Scrap the lot.

They were born in our garden. One became trusting quickly, though both hissed at us for a while, even when being fed. Even after years the black one wouldn’t sit on our laps (she’d put her front paws on, but not her back). When she was ~11 she finally trusted us completely.

We had a system of vehicle excise duty which favoured lower emissions (my brother’s Renault Modus averaged 80mpg & was £35/yr) but George Osborne scrapped it, leaving a flat rate for most cars (but higher charges for luxury cars).
