Books, classical music, prone to hyperbole. Just moved back to Minneapolis after 22 years in DC and Iโ€™m loving it. Someone assumed I was straight, so hereโ€™s this:๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ. hogglestock.com

US250. Thatโ€™s why I jumped on these. Otherwise Iโ€™d have to wait another 50 years.

I'm headed to Berlin in June to hear him conduct Martinu 1 (and more Kapralova).

I'm pretty sure Yannick is doing all 9 including the 3 8s at the Met.

7 concerts 6 cities 3 weeks As regular readers know, each spring I build a spreadsheet with all the repertoire for about 66 orchestras in the U.S. and Canada in order to figure out where I want to go to hear music. I don&#821โ€ฆ

Last season at Carnegie the organ the Czech Phil used in the Glagolitic Mass was really bad. It sounded like it was built in the 70s and cost about $10.

Sometimes I feel like their approach is to keep books not sell them. (Still love the place.)

My favorite part is hearing that many singers sing so quietly.

I thought the Elgar was amazing. I had never heard it live. And the Kurtag was short. On Thursday the Schumann started off a bit sloppy imho.

They did face the audience at the end of the concert. Now Iโ€™m going to have to pay attention to other orchestras. Maybe they all do that.

Maybe they are afraid that George Szell will slap them from beyond the grave if they crack a smile.

Iโ€™ve been to 7 concerts in 6 cities in 3 weeks.

I think the @clevelandorch.bsky.social is the only orchestra that didnโ€™t face the audience when they stood to acknowledge applause.

(Of course they dazzled when they played, but very dour otherwise. They looked like they had been held hostage.)

Hello Bluesky! I am looking for anyone who cares about/writes about/thinks about Rebecca West.

I've been on a 10 year mission to get her a blue plaque in London and am finally allowed to re-apply after it was last turned down.

I'd welcome help building a strong application.

Thank you ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ™
