Americans drive a lot more than people in other rich countries.
If we didn’t drive so much, we wouldn’t die in so many crashes.
It’s a simple point, but one that NHTSA, traffic engineers, and many road safety org’s have yet to learn.

Starting May 3rd: Blake Transit Center is Temporarily Closing Stay up to date

Ah yes, the “Copenhagen left”. It can work if cyclists are afforded signal priority and proper protection, but that’s not the case here.

A few seconds can save a life!
Leading pedestrian intervals are a way to time light changes at intersections to give cyclists and pedestrians a few seconds head start. This makes them more visible to drivers and helps drivers to respect the right of way which people outside of cars have.

🧵 #A2Council Council made the same choice by kneecapping potential density in most of the city zoned for residential use in the upcoming Comprehensive Plan. The loudest, least safe stroads with the worst air quality are where significant new density is "allowed."
Yup. This move turns our stroads into neighborhood streets. They need to be slowed to safe speeds.
And officials sometimes cite transit access, but the interior of “superblocks” are really no further from the actual bus stops on the arterials than many points along those arterials.
At GOPC, we are big advocates for a fully integrated & multi-modal transportation network that is nimble, safe, & reliable for users of all modes.
Our friends at Toole Design have put together a great post about why bike lanes & sidewalks are good for drivers too!
Our longtime volunteer @rhifaux.bsky.social was hit by a driver yesterday on the way home from a road safety workshop at city hall. She is home from the hospital and recovering with a broken wrist. We're grateful it wasn't worse, and outraged it happened at all. More to say soon.

It has been part of our vocabulary since at least the mid-late 1990s, when we learned it from IRC and USENET.
Are we not… made of meat?
Is “meatspace” no longer in the parlance of netizens?
Are we… old?
This attitude is a huge problem and a common occurrence both on social media and in meatspace. Why do people think it is appropriate to make disparaging remarks to another road user about their use of transportation?
We live in a society!
The idea that someone who gets around with a $2000 piece of equipment is "elitist" while someone who uses a $30,000+ piece of equipment that costs hundreds of dollars per month to operate is "normal" is quite the brainwashing.
Cops should not be arresting parents for letting their kids walk or bike around the neighborhood.
A common complaint in many cities, including Ann Arbor, is “rat-running”, folks speeding through nearby side streets to avoid calmed major roads, traffic lights, etc.
Here’s a great solution happening in Berlin.
