Seems like the system of refusing to bring bad news to the White House and refusing to tell the president “that’s a bad idea” has finally reached its inevitable end point: A catastrophic and completely avoidable fuckup.

Glad to see the state legislature rejecting the Uber/Hochul plan to prohibit certain victims of traffic violence from recovering money for their injuries.
First of many I imagine.

The only saving grace is that these sociopaths have demonstrated an ability to make large payments for car-related expenses. So they're not getting out of a lawsuit without a serious personal contribution.
These drivers pay more in ANNUAL speeding tickets than the amount of insurance they are required by the state to have to compensate their victims ($25k, which is a joke of a minimum; hasn't changed since 1996; today, perforce of simple inflation, it should be double that).
They misspelled "Chuck Schumer."
How to win in November
I genuinely don't think most elderly republicans understand the party they're now a member of. These students are the base of Trumpism.
This is incredible writing, and by reading it I learned more than I care to admit.
Also the timing of this for ATIC couldn't be worse. Two years ago, it was reported that DFS had ordered them to take “immediate action” to cure its insolvency and should “explore all possible options to obtain funding." Haven't seen any new funding reported since.

This is very significant. Lots to process but on first glance this decision would seem to shift the cost of insuring Uber's liability from Uber to its drivers (since ATIC would have to raise drivers' premia to cover this "new" liability).

I agree, quite apart from the merits of the case. Alito could only defend the Supreme Court's authority to intervene by grievously misrepresenting the facts. The reality is that there's no plausible argument SCOTUS had the power to do what it did. Why didn't that matter to six justices?
When you tell on yourself just a little bit.
Every trans person is like "I knew something was up before I had the words to describe it and had to fight for this for years" and every transphobe is like "one conversation with a doctor could have convinced me to get the walrus surgery from the movie 'The Walrus'"
Staten Islanders were evicted from Silver Lake Park Road because, and I am not kidding, an assault happened somewhere in the park and the local DA used that assault as a pretext to demand that recreational users be replaced by cars because that will fight crime.
In the last throes of the corrupt Adams administration, @nycgovparks.org erased two protected bike lanes within their jurisdiction for reasons that, though explained, don't make any sense (Forest Park and Silver Lake Park).
Mamdani could reverse course and immediately count that mileage as new.
“Do not rely on the U.S. government…” really a fitting epitaph for Trump and the Republican Party.
It happened at a time of his choosing
Is this bad

NVM it's more than four dead American servicemen.
Oil prices have spiked, Americans are stuck in a warzone, three F-15s shot down in the first 48 hours, four dead American servicemen. But the drapes on the new east wing are going to be SPECTACULAR.
I am beginning to think that the administration didn't prepare for the war they unlawfully started.
I can 100% see the appeal. It can be impossible to get mental health treatment when you HAVE INSURANCE, to say nothing of those who lack coverage. It's just striking that we're left to figure out how to support people who are being victimized by tech the gov't is saying no one is allowed to regulate
It says something that a new technology is being unleashed so carelessly that we're already at harm mitigation (which I probably agree with, it's just ugh).
Judge Lewis Liman (brother of Doug Liman) has ruled that the federal government can‘t unilaterally end congestion pricing, giving the MTA yet another court win on congestion pricing

Very proud of my old colleagues at WilmerHale—and the other firms that didn't cave, and the firms that stepped up to represent them, and the lawyers at caving firms who subsequently quit.
