A good way to understand something better is to go broader. To help students see that everything inside the computer is stored as a number, rather than just looking at text, images and sound, why not include other things such as programs, dates and times?

Mathematics: Octal
Understand the representation of numbers in octal.
That's the reason that I made an octal page, and my hexadecimal page has more than two digits - further examples to test the students' generalised knowledge of number bases.

Quote from CS teacher: βWe are completely overwhelmed with more responsibilities than ever and less support than ever.β
Quote 1: βIt can be a slightly lonely field, because there are often only 1-2 computer science teachers in a given school, and they are almost always overworked because of how many unique preps they teach.β
Quote 2: βThe current strain on the profession is unsustainable. Without better support, educational outcomes will deteriorate over time.β
Quote 1: βTeachers hold professional degrees, yet we are considered less than, paid less than, and often blamed for things outside our control.β
Quote 2: βWe are constantly asked to do more with less.β
Quote from CS Teacher: βListen to the teachers. They know what they need.β
What is it like to teach computer science in today's world? Nearly 3,000 PKβ12 CS teachers shared their perspectives. The 2025 CS Teacher Landscape Report reveals rising demands and inconsistent support, yet also sustained commitment.

This should be required reading for anyone who doesn't work in an actual school but feels the need to insert themselves into the AI in Education conversation.
It's also a great read for those working in schools!

I listened to a few minutes of Biden's talk at Jesse Jackson's memorial service. I've never been much of a Biden fan to be honest. But compared to Trump, he is an amazing speaker.

Trump deliberately targeted/assassinated a head of state.
He announced it. He's proud of it.
There have been attempts before,
but they were covert and unacknowledged.
Can anyone cite a counter example in all of human history?
Now the taboo has been broken, no head of state is safe.

Are any of you doing anything around the Olympics? Back some years ago, the Olympics got me thinking about sorting. Specifically, how to determine which country is winning in the medal count. I wrote something up back then. blog.acthompson.net/2014/02/sort... #TeamCompSci #CSed
