The publishing industry's lack of confidence in authors and its own ability to create careers for them is pathetic and, in the end, self-defeating.

A high stone wall with a large rectangle painted white. A sign attached reads ‘DANGER OF ROCK FALL Do Not Sit Beneath Cliffs’ By the wall a bench with two people sitting, one drinking tea.

I'm sixty today, and weirdly I've never been happier. So my gift to YOU is my best work, with artwork by the amazing @happytoast.co.uk
It would make for a lovely present if you'd have a listen, ideal for driving, or some light dusting. xx

Probably better.
Happy almost birthday. Pisceans are the best. 🐟🐟
A podiatrist sits slumped, clutching my foot.
I’ve broken my podiatrist.

The only reason to publish with them is if you’re writing genre fiction and your readers are primarily an ebook audience. Sci-Fi, romance etc do really really well via Amazon. Better than thru trad. But if your work has a literary bent, definitely swerve.
I don’t publish thru Amazon but they harvest details from ISBNs & list whether you want to be on there or not. If I was doing it again I wldn’t have ISBNs & wld sell only from my website. That’s where 95% of sales have come from anyway. It means a far greater % and I get paid within hours of a sale.
In my experience the ordeal is made bearable - enjoyable even - once you shed the disappointment & go rogue. Indie success, however modest, disrupts an ailing industry. I only want to sell direct now. Given all Ive learnt I’m surprised more writers dont do it as a first resort rather than a last one
Will do.
OK. Can I buy him another book then?
A Keighley News headline that says SHOCK AS SNAKE FALLS FROM THE SKY IN HAWORTH.
Let it be known that when Hollywood has the good sense to produce my version of a Bronte classic, I will def be incorporating this plot twist.
A photo of Rula Lenska walking behind a large sundial sculpture. All you can see is a hand and a wisp of her trademark red hair.
Back in the olden days of Twitter, me and a friend held #CrapPap competitions. My Rula Lenska was a triumph.
A large abandoned mansion, built 1740, on the market for €795,000, in Waterford, Ireland.
Here you go. All yours.
Someone’s living room. There are very chinz curtains with a ruched pelmet. An ornate guilt mirror sits above a flame effect fire with a wood surround. The leather sofa and armchairs or a orangey tan colour and there’s a green draylon armchair. The wallpaper could be 1970s but it’s the carpet that I love. A black background with a floral ribbon design throughout.
I don’t want to buy the house, but I’m putting an offer in on that carpet. #EstateAgentPix
Yes carpet would be flung in a skip before I’d got the kettle on.
A bedroom is painted a very beautiful pink. The eye down is the exact same colour. The blue carpet is a bit of a disappointment but everything else is just lovely.
I’d change very little tbh. #EstateAgentPix
A flock of pigeons are packing the ground in the background, while a pig in the full ground is eating a carrot.
A duck and a pigeon make eyes at each other indoors in the hay.
FUNERAL PIGEON UPDATE :
Andrew (outdoors with pig).
Marie (indoors with duck).
I wonder how thorough you can be once you get into the hundreds?
A photo of Marie, the pigeon sleeping in the hay with a white duck close by.
Funeral Pigeon updated update.
Not sure how many books I read last year, but it will have been single figures. But a) I’m a slow reader, and b) I read every word, sometimes several times over if it’s particularly good.
Too healthy looking young pigeons, one with black speckled wings and the other with a lilac hue.
FUNERAL PIGEON UPDATE:
Andrew and Marie have made friends with and been accepted into the outdoor flock. They will fly free while being fed every day. If you’d like to chuck a few quid at the sanctuary who gave them the best start in life, then here’s the link.

I’m trying to limit my social media scrolling, but it does mean I miss loads. I think I’m going to have to mute some shouty accounts to get more nuance in my feed.
That’s the dance he’s going to do when Mummy’s favourite gets banged up.

Yep. My schadenfreude is tempered by his being arrested over paperwork while the rapes go unchecked.
I come from a long line of Hindleys…
