Amazing visualization. I'd just think about calling 15, 16 and 17- year olds adults...

I mapped dead-end streets in San Miguelito, which suffers from extreme lack of urban connectivity

This définition os science comes from the excellent "Science for the West, Myth for the Rest?" by Colin Scott (2011). I find it a useful definition that includes non-Western forms of science
"[A] social activity that draws deductive inferences from first premises, that these inferences are deliberately and systematically verified in relation to experience, and that models of the world are reflexively adjusted to conform to observed regularities in the course of events"
Just discovered MapSCII, a vector tile to braille/text renderer. Amazing! The project is in need of developers to keep it going github.com/rastapasta/m...
Making labels that stick to the ground on a Maplibre GL JS globe. The way to solve it was to create label polygons as georeferenced objects with some Python. I'm happy with the result! Now to experiment with fonts and colors #cartography
I think it was the wonderful map of rivers by JH Colton (1864) that inspired me to stretch out the geography
Planning a cartography workshop I dug up this schematic of the Guna (Kuna) islands in Panama [1] I made a few years ago for the Almanaque Azul guide. The islands of Gunayala [2] are very small compared to the mainland and difficult to show, hence the transit map idea
Amazing stuff! Good to know this is possible. Do you have the code available somewhere?
Here's how we made this fabric map of nature-culture corridors in Panama for the MAC museum www.miramapas.com/en/portfolio...

It's kind of scary how cold figures appear when the reality on the ground is hundreds of towns being uprooted for "development". In any case, it's not totally clear how trustworthy pop counts for forced displacements are, but the paper demands a closer look and possibly recalibration of sources END
The study found "systematic and significant negative bias in all five datasets, ranging from −53.4% (WorldPop), −65.0% (GWP), −66.9% (GRUMP), and −68.4% (LandScan) to −83.8% (GHS-POP)"
New research compared population counts for big hydro projects that needed to forcefully expel rural villagers with several gridded (raster) global human population datasets, finding undercounts of rural inhabitants of at least half and up to -84%
Some very useful data many of us use for mapping population turns out to be very wrong, according to this new study. Should we be worried? www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Here's how it looks up close
We recently presented a fabric version of our natural corridors map at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Panama. It's been a very productive and fun experiment!
