I'm so glad you found your anchors! The shared enthusiasm seemed like such a foreign concept to me when I first experienced it but I love it. Glad you have found joy. Thank you, too. π

Trish Wilson is all about what scares you. Her short horror stories appear in numerous publications. As the Media Director for The Horror Zine, she has interviewed Ramsey Campbell, Bruce Campbell, Joe Lansdale and more.

I fully understand. I grew up around domestic abuse, too. Also employment abuse which is a whole other ball of wax. Couldn't get a break no matter what I did or where I went. It's very complicated, as you said. I hope you were able to get out from under it all. Best to you!
You have one of those, too, huh? It took years, but I finally got over that abusive mess. I'm much better off now. My current husband is kind and attentive. We've been sick playing volleygerm for a month. We take care of each other. So refreshing! I hope things are going well for you.
I shall! I already knew what it was. Just didn't know it. I saw Sinners not long ago. Such a good movie! Many more to follow.
Thanks for a great #HorrorWritersChat, Gree! And thanks to everyone here who helped me understand action horror better. I know exactly what it is now. Gotta track down some movies like Trench 11. I want to watch Deathwatch again. Below is another good one (set during WWII). Have a great week, folks!

Since NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD got some mentions, here's my Horror Zine interview with John Russo, who co-wrote it with George Romero. SPAWN OF THE LIVING DEAD, written by Russo and co-written by Ani Kyd Wolf, is coming out later this year.

Thanks for another great #HorrorWritersChat, Gree!
If you'd like to read my WWI cosmic/action horror story FOG OVER MONS, link's below. I wrote it with my old pen name, E. A. Black.

Good luck! I don't know as much as I would like about Eastern European folklore although I am aware of Baba Yaga and the Rusalka. May your book be awesome!

With its blood in my eyes, I see clearly now. It's not the monster I had thought it was.
It was my ex-husband. While I despised him, he didn't deserve to die like that. Not the way he looked at me with resignation and fatigue. I wished it could have ended differently.
Go for it! I find non-European folklore to be especially interesting. Asian folklore is amazing. Inanimate objects as evil or cursed, like In A Cup of Tea from the Kwaidan book/movie. There are so many ways you could go with a collection like the one you're planning. Good luck!
Thanks! I have a better grip on action horror now. Must track down some more movies. Trench 11 sounds good, plus it's set during WWI. Must give Deathwatch another go. Now, to find them somewhere. Some of the best movies don't stream or cost too much. :(
I've done that - seen the movies and then tried the games. My husband used to work for Hasbro and Avalon Hill Games. He made good recommendations for me. I no longer play games, but I do have my favorites.
Have you started that collection? There are so many good reference books with unusual folkloric creatures. I have The Field Guide to the Little People. My husband used to play a game that had Red Caps in it. I lit up & told him about the folklore. Turned out the myths were scarier than the game. :)
I was raised Catholic so I fully understand. I no longer follow the faith, but I do find them interesting and effective.
Very interesting choice there. It reminded me of strange flora, like in the book "The Ruins".
I hadn't thought of relic cults. So close to reality but not quite. Scary stuff. Good one!
#HorrorWritersChat
I can pick only one? π«£ I like aliens, vampires, the Old Ones, unusual folkloric creatures like Red Caps and the Rusalka, werewolves, zombies, deceased family/friends who haunt you in an evil manner - completely unlike when they were alive. There are many more.

My favorite archetype in this subgenre is the young, inexperienced soldier having to not only deal with war but also forces he can't understand and are out of his control. I wrote one - Fog Over Mons. Based on the WWI Angels of Mons legend. In my story, they are angels of death.
LOL! I definitely wish there were more WWI movies in general, not just horror. Another one which I have not seen yet is Trench 11 (2017). Just found it on a Google search. It sounds good. Below is another good one, although it's WWII and not WWI.
Oh, definitely yes! That impenetrable fog... Horrifying movie that's definitely underrated.
I haven't seen Demon Knight in years! I like the Resident Evil movie franchise and the games. I played the first game before seeing the first movie. The game made me want to see the movie. War movies first came to mind. It makes more sense now. Thanks!
Okay, I think I got it. Aliens and Sinners came up in my Google search. My first thought was war movies, hence my naming Deathwatch. Aliens definitely fits in there.
#HorrorWritersChat
I just Googled "action horror" and there were a very wide range of movies. Would DEATHWATCH be considered one? Set during WWI, 9 Brit soldiers take refuge in an abandoned German trench, but they aren't alone. It's not German soldiers hunting them down, either. Excellent movie.

I'm Trish Wilson, Media Director for The Horror Zine. I do author interviews & I write quiet horror and horror comedy. I honestly don't know what action horror is. Never heard that term before. Is it kinda like DIE HARD but with demons instead of Alan Rickman?
Good day, #HorrorWritersChat! Spring is just around the corner, and at this time, I'm happy to be hosting tonight's event once again!
I hope you won't mind that this is going to be a self-indulgent one tonight! Because it involves a subject I specialise in and love.
The catharsis of Action Horror.
I finished the series finale of School Spirits. Iβm going to miss it. Very good young adult horror TV drama. Itβs on Paramount.
Great #WriteStuff as usual, Pam. I loved this week's questions! I haven't talked about ROUGHING IT in ages. It's out of print now, but I'm considering reworking it and sending it to small presses to get it out there again. Such a fun story to write. Have a great week!
#WriteStuff A6
Jake and Lance from ROUGHING IT aren't religious. They'd have their ceremony at The Little Al-E-In in Nevada. Since the story is inspired by The X Files, it seems fitting.
#WriteStuff A5
Jake & Lance stay in an old Evil Dead type shack in the woods. The place is deceptive. It has a cappuccino maker, a fridge with built-in ice machine, a printer & a fax machine. So much for roughing it. Their nightstand has Valrhona chocolates, champagne, goblets, and condoms. π«¦

I don't watch game shows so I had to do some research. Jake and Lance would win ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER (2007), hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy. They'd ace the biology questions. This particular game show I might actually watch.
