Apart from the moral repugnance, this is so revealing of how ignorant conservatives are about poverty. Poor people have to think about money ALL THE TIME. They worry constantly about what everything costs, how to substitute one purchase for another, what bill can be put off until payday, etc.
After watching this shit show in Iran can we now agree that maybe having academics isnβt a bad thing?
We know that MTG nickname is really landing because he has to explain it every time.
"We Christians are called to do more than charity. We are called to challenge the *systems* that make charity necessary."
As my kids would say, nodding appreciatively: "bars."
I did this when I was in school myself.
I didn't like fighting with people blocking lockers socializing etc and just carried everything in my backpack from class to class in order to make sure I was never late to class.
Now that they're trying to pretend their war is not a war, they've gone back to calling it the Defense Department.
Me, dumb and politically correct: Firing on unarmed ships or double-tap military strikes on schools are bad things.
More rising costs in Ohio.
Time for a change.
Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.
Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.
We live in Orwellian times.
Mike Johnson right now.
Sorry, I'm still relishing in the fact that I shit on my state representative who recently banned it and he tried clowning on me for only getting 114 votes when I didn't campaign and only expected 11.
I'm really thinking about challenging him to run against each other for auditor in the future.
If only we had Ranked Choice Voting and instant runoffs π
A US submarine sinking a lonely, dinky Iranian surface ship an ocean away from the theater of the main conflictβand 9000
miles from North Americaβmakes it pretty clear the US is fighting a general war, without the declaration required by the Constitution. www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...
Good thread and a reminder that every generation has its own moral panic
Jesse Singal: βI donβt understand why all these experts with degrees keep disagreeing with me. So demoralizing. What could the explanation be??β
He got 4% and 6th place.
If he really wanted, he could have legally changed his name. Some have done that on occasion. But states do have common sense rules about nicknames. Jim instead of James, sure. Brand name of a product you once sold but have never actually used as your own name, not so much
Crockett concedes: βThis morning I called James and congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee. Texas is primed to turn blue and we must remain united because this is bigger than any one person.β

The Iranian ambassador was not, for the record, on American soil.
Iβve never seen an admin more full of juvenile man-children openly projecting their juvenile man-childness every time they open their mouths and try to come across as βtough.β (And yes, I know Waltzβs background: still juvenile.)
What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.
During a tense public hearing, Republican Sen. Thom Tillis called on Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign over her handling of the deadly Minneapolis immigration operation.
I for one have always been proud of my grandfathersβ service during Word Military Operation II.
And the generation before that in the Strategic Intervention to End All Strategic Interventions.
And of course my great-β¦-great grandfatherβs time in the Union cavalry during the Civil Armed Response.
"They were not shy about their doomsday ambitions."
On the US government, from my book THEY KNEW:

Some clowns get offended by people calling Trump a clown, but I personally think he's got the Auguste makeup down π€‘π
I wonder how many of these clowns turned their PFPs into bloody hands during the Afghanistan withdrawal in protest of Biden.
There's much to say about what's going on, but what strikes me the most is just how embarrassing he is. The guy who launched an illegal attack that will lead to war and the likely destabilization of much of the Middle East for no real reason is posting like a middle schooler struggling with English.
Secretary Clinton has been trying to get the press let into the deposition.
Reminder: she wanted the hearing to be public, but Comer said no.
Now sheβs saying that if Boebert is going to take photos and send them to people like Benny Johnson, then the press should be allowed into the deposition.
