Two Slocum gliders were deployed today out of Manasquan inlet. The project is funded by the NJ Research Monitoring Initiative. These gliders will be collecting loads of water data, plus giving us insight into why several whale species are and are not in sampled locations off our coast.

Brian, Lori and Ashley were out yesterday deploying two gliders for the NJ Research Monitoring Initiative. The gliders will collecgt data for the next month off NJ on temp, salinity, oxygen, pH, phytoplankton, zooplankton locations, fish/mammal tag tracking, and listening for whale calls.

RU38 has been in the Gulf of Mexico the last month to help with hurricane intensity forecasts. We covered the hull with a plastic mesh that keeps remora in the Gulf off the glider. Remora
can end the mission as it makes the glider too heavy. Just another challenge of operating AUVs in the ocean.
