The old story I've seen is that Palestine is the missing piece of an Arab regional state and that regional state can take control of oil and bring down empire. Which is kind of insane on at least three levels but it's really popular with some campists.

The argument seems to be that we're rich because of Capitalism and Empire, and the Palestinians suffer in turn because of Empire (and Capitalism). But this of course is so reductive it's not even wrong. (It's also admitting that being good at capitalism is great for your people!)
