Dr Pam Gosal MBE MSP @PamGosalMSP Parents are the primary guardians of their children and we must not strip them of their rights. While the intentions behind the Children (Withdrawal from Religious Education and Amendment of UNCRC Compatibility Duty) (Scotland) Bill are good, it risks stripping parents from their rights while also opening the back door to dangerous ideologies. Children are not old enough to do many things, but the Scottish Government think they are old enough to override their parents when it comes to religious education and observance. At the same time who is to say that some will not try to hijack this bill to bring in harmful ideologies such as gender ideology? Controversial groups such as LGBT Youth Scotland are already operating in primary schools, including in my area of East Dunbartonshire, and this legislation risks creating a scenario whereby schools can ignore the wishes of parents who wish to withdraw pupils from such teachings. That is why I voted ‘No’ on the general principles of this bill.
That MSPs are now openly saying stuff like this is chilling. "Controversial groups like LGBT Youth Scotland"? LGBTYS didn't need to be in my schools for me to be gay, but they sure as hell would have helped me avoid 9 years of fear and self-loathing if they had been. Despicable stuff.
