2nd: The Return of the Generalist. Software creation went down a rabbit hole of specialization. But agentic coding needs technical, design and business know-how combined to fulfill its maximum promise of instant applications/features at your fingertips.
1st: Why even bother to write specs? Spec-driven sounds nice, but right now I can have an implemented version at the same time it would take to write those? I rather have a documented implementation and use that for product decisions, like if we even want that.
After my second weekend with #codex I have further questions, that challenge many assumptions on software creation I accumulated over the years, but also on how to do agentic coding..
But after solving those requirements, we might see finally an Excel-Killer 😄
You know that list of 100 use cases, AI or other, that should be build by your dev team? Next year the team owning the use cases can build 80% of those themselves. Approachable AI tooling, intensive data sharing, solved security sandboxes and a few other things will be required.
For enterprise-grade software there are still a lot of questions, but those will be answered. Many of these likely in 2026.
After a weekend with Codex 5.3 on a private sideproject I can only agree. It delivers almost faster than me getting the next idea it could do. Most of the time it nails the first try. Everything afterwards is me refining the original idea.

This years #TEDAI in Vienna left me with some clarity, how Ai will impact digital designers & what is needed from Ai. Less “pleasing Ai”, more “critical Ai” will help us asking the right questions early. And will lead to more convergence in the work of designers and developers. Let’s see how fast…

Aber Merz war im Blindflug unterwegs gen Abgrund. Dank und Respekt gebührt jenen, die verhindert haben, dass erstmals im Deutschen Bundestag ein Gesetz durch eine gemeinsame Mehrheit mit der AfD zustande gekommen wäre. Sie haben sich gegen ihre Fraktionslinien gestellt, das verdient Hochachtung.
