A picture of my dog, a tan and white Staffy, passed out at my side because she's had a long day at daycare.

Things are tough, to put it mildly.

Here's a random dog picture. She (Addy, my dog) helps me feel grounded. Maybe her goofy smile can help you, and others, too.

who only lived for a little over 30 years.

I think, given what we're seeing in the world (and the US in particular), getting your audience to listen to a more extensive dive into the slave trade would be a good thing. At the very least, I feel it deserves more time than it's been offered.

The history of the slave trade spans multiple centuries, most of the world's continents, countless lives and cultures and peoples. Yet it occupies less podcast time than Supernova in the East, which spans eight years of history. It occupies less time than the coverage of Alexander the Great ...

You know, if you want an audience to hear more of what you have to say, might I offer a suggestion?

Four years ago, you did a blitz episode on the trans-Atlantic slave trade. It clocked in at a little over 5 and a half hours. I think you could expand on that.

And yes, reposting a post online is about as performative as it gets. I see the irony.

Aimed at white women, but I found it generally relevant to white people. If you don't have skin in the game, if your stances don't actually have consequences, if you don't leave your comfort zone ... are you really helping?

Just us white people ruining food because it dares to have flavor

How much money did that retraction cost?

Yes, actually

It's easy to say things, particularly "stupid" things. It's easy to fan the flames and get people fired up over some bullshit or another.

It's much more difficult to know when to disengage, or simply leave a like, or quote/repost.

It doesn't have to be that complicated, but it is.

You know, one of the great things about social media is being able to follow and converse with people of a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, opinions, things to say, etc.

One of the other great things is, with some introspection, learning when to contribute ... and when not to.

Himmel may just be the best example of "be the change you want to see in the world". Sure, he's written to be essentially perfect in terms of morality and actions (at least in the anime), but he's also quiet, humble, and patient. He's a wonderful role model for anyone.

My wife and I are moving our way through the anime, and yeah - Himmel really did seem to dig her, didn't he? Although he could just really, truly be a great guy too.

43, feel the same. I like to say "I'm too old to grow up."

And that's before getting into the Ravagers and undiagnosed indigenous/native bigotry

Hey now, there were Chinese characters! Kind of. Neither character was portrayed by a Chinese, let alone Asian actor ... And they were both ethnic stereotypes (doctor and martial artist), but they were there!

(If it isn't clear, I 100% agree with you)

There's a myriad of other issues with Firefly too, which weren't widely discussed during its run but become more apparent after the past, oh, 24 years of rumination.

No media is without issues and problems, I recognize.

100%. They were also popular during the boom of the rental market, so there's some evidence to support that a lot of games were made harder than originally intended, specifically to encourage multiple rentals

Oh God, those damn monkeys.

I'm not going to repeat myself about deliberate racism.

05.03.2026 23:48 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

It is you, though. Your "joke" is an indication as such.

You really need to internalize this conversation. If you want to be seen as "not racist", your first action might be to stop posting racist things.

05.03.2026 23:44 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I don't think you know what being racist actually means, or what it completely looks like. For example, the person with whom you started this interaction - Jay/Johnathan Perkins - actually educates on the subject.

It is -very- easy to be a "liberal democrat" and be racist.

05.03.2026 23:37 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Also, "the other guy" has a name, and he also has a point - one which you haven't really refuted, nor have you bothered to actually consider.

05.03.2026 23:08 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

It doesn't have to be intentional to be racist.

05.03.2026 23:06 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It wasn't a joke, though, was it?

Be honest.

05.03.2026 22:51 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

No, it wasn't.

It can be! Just know that thermal cycling can cause your cast iron to get damaged too.

Taking it fine! I'd ask how you're taking it, but it's clear that you feel like you have something to gloat about. Good for you.

05.03.2026 15:38 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Do you know what thermal shock is?
