Yes when I was teaching undergrads they told me about this. Almost none of them had ever in their lives read an entire book. I’d assign them a Shakespeare play to read and so many of them literally couldn’t parse the words on the page. Not their fault but I was agog

No idea what kind of actor I’d be without him. His plays came along at career turning points, first “Rough Crossing”, my first gig out of grad school, then “R&G Are Dead”, my first official Off-Broadway contract. Loved all his work so much. Farewell, Sir Tom.
