I'm getting questions about why there are trans characters in my Fantasy novel.
There's a simple answer: trans people don't need to justify existing.
Glad to clear that up!

Victor Frankenstein: Elizabeth, I love you more than just a cousin my parents adopted after your mother died. Marry me!
Elizabeth: Ooh, this is a rough start.
Victor: Donβt worry, later editions drop the cousin thing and just make you my adopted sister/fiancΓ©.
Elizabeth: yay?

Omg what???
You know, I'm not in the slightest bit surprised that people happy to live in a state run on slave labour would abandon their pets at the drop of a hat.

The thing about these guys is that they are all so weak. Every one of them. The scream and stomp and thrust out their chests, but they are terribly, terribly weak and scared.

80s singer Thomas Dolby on raising queer kids: "the eldest is trans, the middle is a lesbian, and the youngest is a drummer"
The 3 genders
As I have said repeatedly, the only move the anti-trans side has is pretending that they've found a scandal, then describe the way medicine (or medical research) works in every other field but trans care in breathless, scandalized tones.

This is kind of brilliant because it leans into the idea that what Gen AI is good at is creating stuff which is bullshit to begin with (focus groups are less about consulting people for true input and more about outsourcing accountability and you can no doubt do this cheaper with digital people)

Everyone Is Lying To You For Money applies every single part of society, industry and politics since the NFT craze, but also I cannot wait to see this movie finally talk about the pyramid scheme that is crypto and the 'billionaires' pushing it so they can take your real money for their fake bitcoin.
This bullshit is going to kill people. When we talk about this as violence, that's what we mean.
CW: CSA mentioned, bad moderator behavior.
Okay, so.
I had a book come out yesterday (BUTTERFLY EFFECTS, available now from a bookstore near you), and as is often the case, I went out last night to promote it. Bookstore event, whee.
The illustrated cover for A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence, by Stephanie Burgis, shows the silhouette of an elegant traveling carriage over the title and a bat with wings outstretched underneath, all of it framed by apples and with mirrors at the top and the bottom of the image. Above and beside the cover is this snippet of text: Her pulse gave a sudden, panicked jolt. Clearly reflected in the mirror, the ragged duvet was curved in the shape of her husbandβs formβbut his pillow was empty. What foolishness! Breathing in and out with slow control, Margaret set her teeth together and forced herself not to follow the instinctive urge to twist around and urgently assure herself that her lifeβs partner was safe. The windows were fully shuttered with multiple layers of thick wooden slats. No sunlight could possibly reach inside this chamber, and she was no weak-nerved ingΓ©nue to be taken aback by a perfectly well-known side-effect of vampirism. She had been studying the supernatural for years. Still, sheβd never anticipated quite how unnerving it might feel when applied to the single person in the world who was undeniably hers.
This week's Wednesday snippet comes from A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence, which is out in ebook and paperback:

* Possibly one ulterior motive.
This is a fantastic deal, and you should definitely go for it. I have no ulterior motives here.
Maybe we need a parallel scheme to the Human Authored one, but for books that are actually written by the people whose names are on the front. Perhaps we could call it "Author Authored".
The Conservative Party insists humans should go on banknotes. The British public demands banknotes be festooned with animals.
There is only one possible solution to heal a divided nation: furries on banknotes.

I hate how they always say "I make no apologies for", which automatically means they know they're doing something wrong.
Me testifying in court:
This is hilarious.
Also, completely enraging.
