I'm getting questions about why there are trans characters in my Fantasy novel.
There's a simple answer: trans people don't need to justify existing.

This is kind of brilliant because it leans into the idea that what Gen AI is good at is creating stuff which is bullshit to begin with (focus groups are less about consulting people for true input and more about outsourcing accountability and you can no doubt do this cheaper with digital people)

I had a book come out yesterday (BUTTERFLY EFFECTS, available now from a bookstore near you), and as is often the case, I went out last night to promote it. Bookstore event, whee.
The illustrated cover for A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence, by Stephanie Burgis, shows the silhouette of an elegant traveling carriage over the title and a bat with wings outstretched underneath, all of it framed by apples and with mirrors at the top and the bottom of the image. No sunlight could possibly reach inside this chamber, and she was no weak-nerved ingΓ©nue to be taken aback by a perfectly well-known side-effect of vampirism. She had been studying the supernatural for years. Still, sheβd never anticipated quite how unnerving it might feel when applied to the single person in the world who was undeniably hers.

This is a fantastic deal, and you should definitely go for it. I have no ulterior motives here.
Maybe we need a parallel scheme to the Human Authored one, but for books that are actually written by the people whose names are on the front. Perhaps we could call it "Author Authored".
