A graphic of the book HOME SICK against a moody grey background of farmed fields and a dark treeline. The book has a Publisher Marketplace Buzz Books sticker on it. The author is very proud of this. Next to the book is a quote reading "Beyond a shadow of a doubt one of the best horror books you can pick up in 2026 and beyond." Beneath the quote is the quoted author's name "Johanna van Veen author of Blood on Her Tongue."
An exceedingly kind blurb from Johanna van Veen for HOME SICK. I had the pleasure of chairing for Johanna's first book, My Darling Dreadful Thing, at Cymera festival in 2024. I haven't chatted so much about bog bodies before or since.

I've no idea why it's taken me so long to wear it again. I'm def going to break it out more often (after taking it to the dry cleaners because I, of course, got buttercream all over it)

Good morning, Womble! I'm currently reading THE BRIDES by Charlotte Cross, a Dracula-inspired epistolary novel and I am LOVING it so far!

Thanks! I'd been despairing over what dress to wear. Then I remembered my suit! I am, of course, wearing it with the Hayao Miyazaki "Anime was a mistake" t-shirt I got at Glasgow WorldCon

A photo of a funfetti heart-shaped cake with candles in the shape of a 4 and a 0. Written in pink icing is the phrase "halfway there".
When I picked up my birthday cake, another customer asked what I was halfway to. Retirement? I replied, while doing jazz hands, "To the graaaave!"
I have never seen anyone look so horrified. Anyway, big thanks to Dale and Krema bakehouse for indulging my morbid sense of humour.

Adding alt text here because, for some reason, bsky wouldn't let me do it on the previous post:

I very much hope those in government will read this and understand the risk they're taking with one of the UK's most consistently successful sectors - a risk profoundly bound up in an enormous speculative bubble and tech that has horrific externalities and is terrible at nearly everything.
