This feature is gross, but the proposed opt-out doesn't solve the issue of Grammarly using the names of (in some cases, recently) dead authors. How do they opt out?

Possibly the least surprising political news this year.

Looking forward to seeing it!
That was quite something.
A photo of a book page titled βQuick-recognition text hierarchy,β explaining a design where paragraphs use different font sizes to signal importance and let readers skim at different depths depending on how much time they have.

Agreed. I'd love to see more people making bolder design decisions for books: love this example from @iandouglas.bsky.social @thamesandhudson.bsky.social where hierarchy of font sizes acts as an affordance for different reading pathways. Not for everyone, but more of this experimentation!
There are only three days left so it's unlikely it'll hit its goal, but there's a Kickstarter ongoing for a series of immersive audio stories set in the Withered Hill universe.

A screenshot from the spoof Allister Heath headline generator, reading βBritainβs descent into Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne! madness is terrifying to behold.β
Checks out.
COME ON!!
We're in @sfxmagazine.bsky.social this month.
Still taking pledges for 13 more days. Six episodes of folk horror immersive audio in @davidmbarnett.bsky.social's Withered Hill universe.

Short term, it's hard. Longer term, the first time I played favourite games with my children, or my daughter painting her first miniature at GW, made up for it. I hope you have many similar things to look forward to. π
14 days to go. That's two weeks in old money.
We have everything in place to produce 3 hours of immersive audio folk horror. We'd very much like the opportunity to do something we've never seen done in an immersive presentation before.

Very similar hereβdiscussed with 17 y/o who has been hearing about it constantly as William Golding taught at her school so they are making a lot of it. Did get through all four parts but goodness it was a slog.
Fair points. I guess I meant hope for today but agree with you there is hope for the future.
It wasnβt the most relaxing experience from the other side. Early spark of hope trampled. Congratulations.

Oh, those are really super. Iβve always loved the idea of free floating shelves but have never trusted myself with DIYing something to carry the weight of a shelf full of books.
Good luck to anyone trying to publish any other news today.

At the risk of sounding like Tyler BrΓ»lΓ©, the thing I miss most about pre-pandemic flying is print media. No FT at the gate now, no obscure glossy magazines in the lounge.
Oh yeah. The least surprising aspect of this story last week was that the pilot scheme recouped more than it cost.

I'm in half a dozen Slack workspaces across different clients and partners. It's amazing to me that there seems to be no simple, native functionality to manage my status across all of them. Anyone got a good workaround for this?
Cold is a temporary state. Bespoke bookshelves will cheer you up every time you look at them. π€
Posit: the likelihood of someone having a careful, nuanced understanding of AI is inversely proportional to their willingness to sound off about it on a crowded train. There's a person sitting behind me giving their lucky travelling companion an opinion at top volume, and... just no.
Had an excellent time at the @independentpublishersguild.com Spring Conference yesterday. Great presentations and company. On the train home, I wrote a quick blog post about the things I'm thinking about as a result of the day.

I was going to make a crack about amateurs read Herodotus, professionals read Thucydides. But the view of Sparta here isnβt even Herodotus, itβs 100% Frank Miller.
It makes a nice change when the first social post you see in the morning is pure joy. π
