Me too! I am working on a new novel and especially here in actual drafting (not thinking, not pre-drafts that I set aside), even the ways to express that many characters are important to a book conflict with a lot of the ideas about writing I internalized as a student/emerging writer
I mean, I was in the lucky position where some really great people wanted it but I did get some people who were really, really into but what if the main character was a chosen special magical being (capitalism!)
and I can articulate now that I don't really think feminism can work on a large scale within US-style capitalism but it took writing that book to understand that was how I felt personally and theoretically. But it was interesting seeing when those ideas were a hard sell to people wanting to buy it
when we were trying to sell my second novel, The Women Could Fly, the biggest questions I had when talking to potential editors were why was there so much emphasis on different forms of collectiveness (protests, artistic collaboration, magic as being more powerful in a group, the ending)

Liz is terrifying to disagree with, she has a brain that seems to use a vast amount of its processing power to remember every weird or problematic thing anyone has ever said. She is hilarious, too, and mostly kind. To say only white men are ever interested in Lyn would make Liz laugh so hard it would be heard around the world.
