Equally, I don't understand the logic in removing it by default at all either.
I was cut as an adult for clinical needs, and my life is massively improved as a result of it. My foreskin never functioned as intended so I'll never know what I've missed out on in comparison - I just know as unpleasant as it was to sort out, personally I'm better off without it. ...
