Bluesky's firehose is a treasure trove of public data for researchers and developers, and it's completely free. Check out our developer docs: docs.bsky.app

Yeah it seems like Randle might not be the best fit there, I have high hopes for DiVincenzo though! And Ant is still a rising star so I feel like having a player like that can still keep you in contention for a good bit
Felt this might be a good time to bump/re-quote my old post! What are some top/interesting Bluesky apps, tools, or repos that I should check out?

I built an iOS app with @jjj.bsky.social for sending checks in the mail from your phone
We just launched a new update and are figuring out how to market it effectively
Starting with SEO, directories, and dabbling with ai video content marketing

i *know* that there canβt be any random accumulating state inside my ios/ and android/ folders because they get rebuilt from scratch every time thereβs a native-related change
itβs like react for xcode/gradle bs. rerender those folders
Ink & Switch is now here on Bluesky, too.
new blog post: React Native, and βthe native feelβ
What are some of your favorite Bluesky community apps and where can I find developer docs? Trying to learn more about the current state of the network as someone who has been spending a lot of time on Farcaster.xyz
Also need to spend some time using/demoing React Complier! π€©
Really enjoyed watching all the talks from ReactConf 2024, especially this talk by Evan Bacon about bringing RSCs to Expo Router (wanna start using this rn! π

Where I think there will be a real opportunity for a super app much further down the line is when FC's composability plugs into web2 apps and actions If FC helps create a single profile/interest graph with your content, then you can truly make custom apps or experiences
A cast by 0xdesigner: https://warpcast.com/0xdesigner/0x43760d96
But overall the conversation has been less focused on super apps/browsers, in part because Farcaster's composability makes apps stronger without always needing a super app to "glue" different apps together (example of Farcaster's composability below)

A screenshot from roam.xyz's browser beta on iOS
There has also been a focus on crypto-focused browsers, which inherently have to become your de-facto homepage to fully succeed I find this exciting because of the short-term problems this solves(eg. wallet connection) and the strong teams working in the space(eg. Roam β¬οΈ)
There have also been discussions on/around Farcaster about super apps for two main reasons:
- Warpcast's feed is starting to become a place where users can take actions(mint with warps, frames, cast actions, etc)
- social/interest graphs are starting to converge even more
Especially in consumer crypto, there's been a ton of talk about a super app is because everything is scattered and everyone is looking for a landscape/marketplace where they can grab user's attention(and hopefully onboard new folks to crypto as well)
A diagram of WeChat's use cases from this article: https://medium.muz.li/what-makes-wechat-so-successful-5d4795c96e1d
Super apps were discussed in an era where companies built in inter-connected verticals to capture as much value as they could from customers
A true example of a super app is WeChat, with many micro-apps available in one app, but there's nothing *truly* like this in the US
There have been convos around a "crypto super app", but I think there's one big problem with this: everyone wants it but nobody is building it I took some time this afternoon to write about super apps, why crypto wants one, and why I don't see this happening... yet

One day a new, mainstream consumer app could use the protocol in a different way and expand the protocol, but I think it would require a different feature set than the types of things that Farcaster's most popular clients lean into that make people want to use them.
For example, proposal notifications for PurpleDAO drove engagement and provided a service other apps & protocols don't. And with the new protocol upgrade FIP-2, users can reply directly to URLs or smart contracts.
What if this was used to make a Purple-only discussion?
While Farcaster currently caters to a crypto-oriented community, expanding the protocol to non-crypto users may require a different approach.
Rather than trying to be a social app for everyone, focusing on providing the best experience for crypto natives could be more valuable.
New article for the first time in a while!
"Focus on What Doesn't Scale" is about how I think Farcaster should lean into its ETH-native features instead of focusing on growing to a larger, non-crypto native userbase.
