I think you could consider lowering your commission prices and perhaps telling commissioners that you're not willing to add in large amounts of detail without escalating the value of the commission itself.

I've also commissioned someone in the past - expecting a level of detail and quality that they didn't really deliver when comparing to what other commissions have gotten.
However, in that case, I felt that their commissions were cheap enough that I didn't really fuss too much about it.

I've tried to preemptively discourage requests like that by being pretty straight-forward that they're getting something in my personal style and point to examples of previous commissions that will generally be the level of detail to expect.
I know thats a little harder with 2D art for sure.

I've been on both ends. 90% of my commissioners are totally perfect little angels but I've had some people ask me for more detail in the model and I've usually replied with 'that's not really in line with my style' but I usually find some way to compromise and they're fine with it.
