The MN House just voted (unanimously) to rename our state’s solar program in honor of Melissa Hortman, who created it.
Here's a snippet of her remarks from when her original bill was passed in 2013. It was one of her proudest accomplishments.
It’s more than fitting the program be named after her.

Videos of ICE Shooting in Texas Capture a Confused and Fatal Encounter
Officials said a 23-year-old Texan had intentionally run over an officer, a claim his family and friend denied. Newly released footage leaves the truth murky.
Ruben Ray Martinez was the first of at least three Americans who were fatally shot by federal immigration agents during President Trump’s second term. Nearly one year after Martinez was killed, newly released footage captured a chaotic and confusing scene.

I don’t know who called off the Target boycott, but my wife and I haven’t been there since last January, and we have no plans to go back.
What did I miss? Because I haven’t seen an apology or any real course correction. Target spit in our faces, so we made a conscious lifestyle change.

Today in America, a gunman attacked a university in Virginia and another gunman attacked a synagogue in Michigan. Both gunmen are dead, but communities will long be impacted
Infuriating that our country refuses to take action to protect our schools & houses of worship.

House DFL Leader Zack Stephenson blasts GOP leadership for suggesting people 'chose to stay home’ while ICE was terrorizing Minnesota:
“When you’re forced to stay home from work because you could be arrested based on the color of your skin or the accent you speak with, that’s not a choice."

They either didn't know Iran would shut down the Strait of Hormuz or they knew and didn't have a plan.
Either way - just totally clear they don't give a damn about what this war means for hardworking Americans.

More than 318,000 children have already benefitted from Minnesota’s nation-leading Child Tax Credit this year - with families receiving an average credit of $2,669.
The goal is simple - put money in the pockets of working families and lift children out of poverty.

ICE detainee in Arizona dies after not receiving medical attention for severe tooth pain
Emmanuel Damas, a Haitian asylum seeker, was being held at the Florence correctional center before he died
A Haitian asylum seeker detained by ICE died after being refused timely medical attention for a severe toothache.
At least 40 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office — a two-decade high.
The monstrous cruelty of Trump's police state knows no bounds.

DHS agents are still here in our community in plain clothes scouting out immigrant owned businesses on Central, knocking on neighbors doors, swapping out licenses plates in cars without registration, and driving dangerously in our community.

MN Freedom Caucus is still a boys' club.
The handful of conservative legislators who formed the Minnesota Freedom Caucus last month were all men, as regular Dish readers may remember.
But my colleague Nathaniel Minor reports that one woman legislator says she tried to join — and they wouldn’t let her.
“Zero women allowed in the @FreedomCaucusMN,” Rep. Mary Franson posted to social media recently. “#iaskedtojoin”
Franson and Rep. Drew Roach, who’s leading the Freedom Caucus in the House, declined to comment this week. Sen. Eric Lucero said last month he expects their membership to grow and that “authentic women” are welcome to join.
Rep. Pam Altendorf, another conservative legislator, defended the caucus on social media. “It’s dishonest to say they’re not taking women….. they just don’t have one now…. Doesn’t equate to women are excluded,” she said.
Interesting nugget in today’s Strib politics newsletter: the MN Freedom Caucus is currently all men and recently rejected state Rep. Mary Franson as a member.

We killed 160 girls in a school on Day One and called it investigation-worthy. There is no euphemism available. No framework sufficient. We did this. With our money. In our name. That's not strategy. That's shame. I'm appalled with our country. Donald Trump is a war criminal.

The Minnesota resistance exposed the Orwellian frauds of the administration • Minnesota Reformer
This may be the beginning of the end of Trump’s ability to assert whatever version of reality he wants.
Commentary: Minnesota’s resistance to the ICE surge cracked the Trump reality bubble. The air started leaking out, and the truth in.

The Desire for Terror
And the defense of democracy
A purpose of the war on Iran might well be to provoke a terrorist attack inside the United States, thereby justifying the need to “federalize” elections. We must anticipate it, with sadness and resolution, and not be surprised, if it happens.

Yesterday, our volunteer observers saw 13 detainees board an ICE Air flight, which flew to Alexandria, LA.
Since January 1, we've noted 79 such flights at MSP, which have carried away an estimated 3,127 people to detention centers in Nebraska, Louisiana, Texas, and beyond.

It's looking increasingly like these guys thought that if they could wreak more death and destruction than the other side then they would be respected as strong powerful men and they would "win" and that would make them big important heroes. Very possibly they had no rationale deeper than that.

Oil prices are closing in on $100.00 per barrel. Iran is mining the Straights of Hormuz. A Thai ship has been hit and now has 3 missing crewman. Thankfully the rest we rescued by the Omani Navy. This war is a complete and utter trainwreck.

Meta has deliberately cut civil rights and civil liberties out of its calculus. As an internal Meta memo reasoned, “Many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.” The company presumably sees a business opportunity in the ongoing assault on American democracy. That’s where Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive, is wrong: We are paying attention, and we understand clearly that this technology is part of that very same assault on our rights. We are always ready to fight, and we will continue to defend everyone’s rights — from both the government and Big Tech.
It was recently leaked that Meta plans to quietly roll out smart glasses equipped with facial recognition while civil liberties groups like ours are busy dealing with the Trump administration.
They're wrong. We can walk and demand Meta halt production on these creepy glasses at the same time.

Housing.
Tariff relief.

Schatz: We don’t know for sure, but the likely bombing of an elementary school with one of our Tomahawk missiles is not a one-off mistake. It is the result of a change in policy so that the United States has way looser rules of engagement — way more tolerance for civilian harm.
