#GoodTrouble Lives On in Gaston County, NC, where about 75 people gathered at the foot of a Confederate monument to honor John Lewis and other civil rights trailblazers. Great energy, great connections and great determination to fight for justice and decency in a deep red county.
Weβre ready to keep #GoodTrouble alive here in Gaston County NC. Donβt let stereotypes fool you. Resistance is building in red areas too @indivisiblegaston.bsky.social
@indivisiblegaston.bsky.social held its first pop-up demonstration for democracy, diversity and decency in Mount Holly NC his morning. Resistance is building, even in red counties.
Maybe they didnβt mean to send it now, but if they wrote it theyβre planning to do it. Journalists and activists, if you have Ukrainians in your community they likely got this email from Homeland Security. We need to know more. Kudos to WFAEβs JuliΓ‘n Berger for breaking the story.
This is a national outrage that we need to stop before it happens. Take time to read the email at the bottom of this story. This was written by our government, to Ukrainians admitted for βurgent humanitarian reasons.β And they say it was sent by mistake? β¦

β¦ Not only did the councilwoman stand up for her rights, but the sheriff and police chief both ignored the mayorβs repeated demands to remove her. At least one of them is a Republican, but he put the law over politics.
How is authoritarianism playing out locally? In Gastonia, NC, the mayor (WM GOP) tried to have a city council member (BF Dem) removed from a meeting when she argued with him. No threats or inappropriate language. She just made him mad. But there was a bright spot β¦
β¦ Bezos seems eager to bend the knee, which is deeply troubling. But the opinion page published this @danamilbank.bsky.social piece. And the news side continues to employ outstanding journalists and publish important work.
βIf we β¦ are to defend his twin pillars, then we must redouble our fight against the single greatest threat to βpersonal liberties and free marketsβ in the US today: President Donald Trump.β
This illustrates the βcancel the WaPoβ dilemma. β¦
It really would be a shame if thousands of regular Americans trolled Musk by flooding this inbox. Like, if you were to email hr@opm.gov β¦

Charlotte turned out several hundred people for a Presidentsβ Day protest focused on Jefferson Griffinβs efforts to throw out votes and steal a state Supreme Court seat.
Bishop Mariann Budde set an incredible example of compassionate courage this week. Turns out sheβs written a book on the topic. I asked my local bookstore to get me a copy and they said itβll take a couple weeks because of overwhelming demand. Iβll wait! Love the idea of being part of this crowd.
Has it happened yet? π
Right? I care nothing about the anatomy of whoever is in the next stall. Itβs not low on my list of concerns, itβs absent.
A bit of inspiration from my morning walk on Little Sugar Creek Greenway
Yes!
I donβt know. All my friends seem to be posting on Facebook about being on Bluesky π
3. Stay connected with folks who care about the things I do β the leaders and speakers but also the quiet helpers.
4. Reconnect with nature. It keeps me sane and grounded.
What are yβall doing to stay engaged and focused? My thoughts so far:
1. Follow the news but donβt wallow in it.
2. Try to remember what I want to work for, not just what I want to fight against. The latter may be essential to the former but I donβt want to let someone malicious define me. β¦ π§΅
David Remnick in the Nov. 18 @newyorker.com (which has several strong pieces): βOne of the perils of life under authoritarian rule is that the leader seeks to drain people of their strength. A defeatism takes hold. There is an urge to pull back from civic life.β
This rings true. β¦ π§΅
βTis the season β caught them putting up the tree at Belmont City Hall!
Love him!
Gotta admit, Iβm still figuring out how to dance here.
Everyone seems determined to test how much π© they can get by with. And sadly, it tends to be a lot.
