I've been tempted to start watching, but then I saw that it is like item seven in the Monsterverse, and I'd only seen one of the previous movies or shows or whatever. I don't know that I have the patience to get caught up.

My oldest broke both of his wrist bones during the first week after school got out when he was 10. On the first day of the daycamp that he was going to. While playing around on a tree waiting to get let in. 🫠 It was quite the start to his summer (and is now something we laugh about). ❤️

The Apple TV show Knife’s Edge, which is a kinda cheesy/reality-tv-esque docuseries about restaurants pursuing Michelin stars, had a few glimpses of this sorta shit. And they weren’t going for an exposé. And the chef’s all knew they were being filmed. Made me wonder what happens w/cameras off.

I think as a general rule it would be good for the Democratic Party to nominate younger candidates on average but we may have rung that bell a little too hard if people look at “is Old” and “is maybe Nazi” and see the first as worse.

If you step back and your output could be 95% replicated by a bot that replied “Schumer and Jeffries are useless!” to any news about Trump doing something, you’ve got some reflection to do.

I got distracted halfway through writing that thread and forgot to add the bit where I say that, even though the floor is being raised, I think we’re a long, long, long, long, long way away from expertise being useless.

(Note for the other people reading this thread: please note that at no point did I say any of this was good, bad, or indifferent. Describing reality != being pro- or anti-AI.)

The doomer we’re-all-jobless-in-18-months view by necessity treats demand as inelastic. And I think that’s so foolish as to be almost unfathomable. Ask literally any PM if we’ve been producing software “fast enough” up to this point…

But my personal belief is there’s just literally no end to the software we-as-a-society can make and consume. And being able to produce that software faster and cheaper doesn’t actually impact the demand in any real way.

And the “Yeah, but it needs an actual expert guiding it” is also a “for now” thing. The huge level-up from everything before to last October/November doesn’t mean AGI is around the corner but it does mean I’m not gonna bet against future step-changes like that.

I’m not sure that’s a winning long-term argument, unfortunately. See: Amazon subsidizing shipping for a decade. Even if they all hit the brakes and stopped investing in data centers or new models or *anything* else, and went into money-rake mode, the value prop is still there.

Remember when people thought that The Pitt was going to be all AI-boosting all the time, based on episode two? I kinda wanna track down all of the people who were posting that and ask if they have any idea what the phrase "media literacy" means.

I quit right around the AI stuff, but mostly because it made me take stock and my 2,400-day Duo Lingo streak was just meaningless. I was no better at Spanish at day 2,400 than I was at 1,400. I'm *great* at their games, but they weren't teaching me jack shit.
