Yikes!
Yikes!
Ice is not my favourite! When we get storms here, it often goes through melt/freeze cycles and with lots of hills, it can be pretty unpleasant! So I'm glad you're getting fluffy fun snow instead!
From here it looks super fun, but it's probably not quite as joyous to live through!
Snowdrop flower with green leaves against a brown background.
Spring in the PNW. We wouldn't mind some actual snow, but I'm also grateful we're not in a blizzard like those in the East.
Tiny Hiker is on Orca's Blog today!

I think nudibranchs are so fascinating! But I'll always love orcas...and barnacles are so cool. How am I supposed to pick just one?
Would you like 9 seconds of glorious frog chorus? If so, this video is for you.
A fern beside a stick with hair like ice coming out of the stick.
The conditions were perfect for hair ice today β€οΈ
Two stacks of bookmarks with Tiny Hiker and Trail Games on them
I got home from presenting (about picture books) at an environmental conference and these amazing bookmarks were waiting for me! I'm so excited to give them to kids on the trail β€οΈ

So beautiful!
Just a few seconds of sunset waves for you.

I love the cloud layers

Such a pretty dog.
I made a Christmas fort in my yard. It makes me happy.
A little green fish with small fins and large eyes is suction cupped to the aquarium.
Spiny lumpsuckers are the most adorable fish.
Stock puppets with squirrels on them
My kid needed to make a stick puppet character for their Wild Robot puppet show. ChitChat looks suspiciously like the adorable squirrel @jaimieillustrates.bsky.social put on all the pages of Tiny Hiker...
Thanks! Those are the ones I find most comfortable. Plus as a bonus we can put them in all the vehicles for wildfire season when the outside air is chewy.

They are salmon alevin! After they hatch, they haven't absorbed their yolk sac yet, so they do look tadpole-ish!
Thank you!
A teeming mass of alevin (baby salmon with their yolk sacs attached. They look like eggs with tails and eyes.)
This week we visited the hatchery with students. I will never get tired of seeing these adorable babies!
Words "The Author" and a photo of a little girl in a tree. Words "The Book" and the cover of Tiny Hiker with a little girl looking up at the forest.
The author and the book
I'm 100% vulnerable to this tactic as well, but don't tell my kids I'm onto them. I'm usually willing to sacrifice their sleep for fun learning.
A child-made drawing of two banana slugs seated at a table with a plate of something green in front of each one.
Slug dinner time.
I'll never get tired of these slug sagas.
Leaf covered trail with tall trees and lots of yellow leaves.
Mossy vine maples create an arch over a leaf covered trail.
Sunshine in the forest is always glorious in the fall.

A green and purple leaf out of clay with a small red fairy door on it is on a mossy branch.
It was a gorgeous day in the woods. You never know if a perfect fall day will happen, so they are extra treasured.
(My sample clay fairy doors were still in my backpack so they got to make an appearance too)
On a bright purple background is the cover of Nice to Eat You. The word "Eat" is written next to the word "Meet," which has been X-ed out. The cover has a pink-faced cat-eye-glasses-wearing old lady holding a platter of cupcakes, the other hand raised in welcome. Behind her, leafless trees with haunted faces scream silently under a crescent moon. Above the cover is the text "Pre-order your signed copy now." Below: "Flying into bookstores on July 7, 2026."
Eeeeek! Itβs the cover reveal for my 5th book, βNice to Eat You!β Is the sweet old lady a π§π½ββοΈ? Well, yeah. But do the kids know?! π«£
