Look at ULINE’s About Us page, a blog on how hard it is to retain young employees, calling them “sheltered“ - by their parents, the ACA and Covid - and writing in part: “Thanks to three rounds of stimulus checks, people didn't get off their couches to work….”

My calligraphy notebook lies open on a cable knit sweater that was, at the time, a work in progress. In the foreground lie two balls of yarn. The sweater is a bluey green colour, as are the balls of yarn. The cable sections of the sweater are bordered by sections of double moss stitch. The quote in the notebook comes from Peggy Orenstein’s memoir ‘Unraveling: What I learned about life while shearing sheep, dyeing wool, and making the world’s ugliest sweater’. The quote reads: ‘Making can be a way to resist a disposable culture, to connect to basic processes in a world where we’ve lost such an awareness, a world that, too often, reduces us to either workers or consumers. For me, at bottom, it is simply a sources of joy.’ - Peggy Orenstein.
