I'm late to the party, but these questions are fun. I'd go with Borderlands as well. A couple of friends and I played through it last year and it hasn't aged well. Borderlands 1 is still a fun game, but D:AO and F:NV are classics.
That's a tough choice. I could rant about Oblivion's shortcomings for hours (where's the jungle, Todd?). But if we're ignoring sequels, I'd reluctantly pick Mass Effect. The story is phenomenal. But the gameplay can get repetitious and the morality system restrictive in terms of player agency.
