Spring dinner - Kale Leek Galette
It’s been a devastating 24 hours with 3 NIH grants terminated…all focused on the health and wellbeing of trans or intersex youth. If folks have any ideas of foundations that may be interested in supporting the completion of these projects so years of work aren’t wasted, please let me know. 🙏
Horrible news - The Adolescent Medicine Trials Networks for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN) funded by the NIH has just been terminated.
Stopping a clinical trial mid-course like this is insane.

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.
More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.
I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.
Unfortunately, there was another round of FUNDED grants cancelled yesterday. These illegal cuts stop projects that have been in progress for years, interrupt lifesaving research, and destroy the public good of science in the US.
If you were impacted, please share you story with us: fedfreeze.org

Atlanta Stand Up For Science March poster, State Capital, Liberty Plaza, March 7, 2025 noon-4
Stand Up For Science next Friday (3/7)! In 2024, Georgia institutions received just over $1 billion in funding and had more than $30 billion in economic impact in GA. That's a PHENOMENAL return for tax payers- let's share that news!
A tribute to my friend R. Scott Hawley:

Important to note that the pause applies only in the 22 suing states. That means the rest of the country is still subject to the 15-percent cap.
Could be an interesting opportunity to build a red/blue state coalition?
We are encouraging
-Wackiness
-Scrappiness
-FOCUS on people who DO NOT GET ANY SCIENCE. Not schools.
-Ensuring that people don't need to "come to you" to experience your project
-And again- I mean it- putting science *where it does not currently exist*.
Apps are due FRIDAY for the Science IRL grant
We're funding projects that tackle humanity's big science-centric problems, while reaching people who are NOT engaging with science. Bring me your creative, unique projects that put science where there currently is none.

🧵 If you’re applauding the abolishment of the Department of Education, you need to do a little research. You have ZERO clue what the DOE actually does.
Here’s a reality check on what the Department of Education actually does:
(1/14)
It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.
My lab strives to reduce infertility, miscarriages, and birth defects. We want y’all to have healthy kids.
I know it sounds weird, but indirect costs pay for lights, HVAC, maintenance, cleaning, safety, and admin.
It’s really hard to reduce birth defects in the dark.

So sorry and thinking of all the people Scott helped in his storied career - hugs
I’m so so sorry - Scott was so wonderful especially his incredible support for Junior scientists - heartbroken
