Can't go wrong with such a fine selection.
Can't go wrong with such a fine selection.
I rarely get nostalgic for stuff like movies, music etc, but I'm consumed by nostalgia for *vibes*. Just the atmosphere and feelings of some very specific moments, etched into my brain. And it seems I never learn that trying to recreate them is a futile effort.

Two cars parked in a driveway, the nearer of which is a 1990s Mercedes 450SL, the further of which (covered in melting snow) is unfamiliar to me. The photo is underexposed due to user error.
Long view down a residential block toward a tall apartment building. In the foreground is the entrance to a home with the trunk of a tree in the immediate foreground to the left. In the distance are the porches/balconies to a row of early-20th century homes. The view is in part possible because a very large diseased tree was recently cut down.
View down a rear lane way that gives access to the parking of homes on either side. The terminating view is of two tall 1950s apartment buildings. Due to the rapid melting of snow, the lane is mostly a puddle.
Rear end of a house that is currently an apartment. To the left is the fire escape leading to the third floor / attic apartment.
Photos made during a melty Sunday morning walk.

Retro looking film photo of Cape Cornwall from cliffs above. Bright golden, washed out light.
Waves breaking in Porth Ledden. Pale blue sky and green cliffs.
The white painted former mine managers house on cliffs above Cape Cornwall.
Another angle on the house - same washed out blues and intense golden light.
Talking of Cape Cornwall, much as I love it in a storm, the last time we were there was in beautiful April sunshine.
Took some film snaps on my little Olympus Trip and they all came out looking like 1970s postcards...

I've had a failing scanner once that made images looking very much like this.
Hah. It just felt right again.

I've seen this on a PC a few hours ago, no media on anyone's profile including my own. But it's fine for me now.
I treat being on this list as a badge of honour.

With slide film there's not much you can do other than just shoot and develop it like normal, hoping it's still good. The methods people use for old negative film won't work here.
Thanks! With overcast winter it sure can be hard to tell sometimes...

Granted, the results might not be 100% to a lab standard (but who achieves that at home anyway). The manuals provided with the kits are usually very cautious but as you develop more and more you figure out what works for your own workflow and can test the limits π
Developer is always the weakest link in C41. Storing it oxygen free is crucial, I'm just using normal soda bottles but filled to the absolute brim.
Yes, exactly - if the camera decides it needs to stop down further than the selected aperture it will still do so.
But I'm not planning to use it like that anyway, no need since the meter seems to work well.
It really helps with the shelf life if you're into the long haul use. I've been doing 16-18 rolls over 6 months with the same 1L of chems without noticeable issues.
It does, but you can also manually set the aperture in 'A' mode (1/125s as opposed to the flash 1/30) which it doesn't mention. The aperture tab is spring loaded to the open position but you can hold it when taking the photo as an 'override' of sorts. At least that's how it works in my example...
That's the weird thing, everywhere on the internet says it's auto only but I get it in my hands and sure enough you can just set the aperture if you wish. I even read the original manual and it doesn't say anything about this.
Yeah, these auto exposure selenium cameras are always a gamble unless actually tested with film. My last few times I wasn't so lucky (although these were with optional lightmeters so no big deal) so I'm hesitant to pay more than some loose change like in this example.
