Peace & Thread

Large handmade quilt composed of hundreds of small rectangular fabric strips arranged in a dense, interlocking pattern across the entire surface. The strips are oriented both horizontally and vertically, creating a woven, basket-like effect with overlapping right angles. The color palette is dark and subdued, dominated by charcoal, black, deep brown, slate gray, muted blue, and occasional touches of beige and soft tan. Many of the fabrics feature subtle stripes or fine linear patterns, adding texture and visual depth. The quilt has a narrow dark border framing the edges. From a distance, the surface appears almost mosaic-like or pixelated, with a softly undulating bottom edge as it hangs against a plain wall, emphasizing its weight and handcrafted construction.

Amish quilt featuring a bold, geometric medallion design made from large, solid-color fabric panels. At the center is a red diamond shape set on point, surrounded by a narrow light gray border and then a larger lavender square. These central shapes are framed by additional light gray borders and a wide outer border in deep red. The quilt is made entirely from solid fabrics with no printed patterns, emphasizing strong color contrast and clean lines. Intricate hand quilting covers the surface, including dense feathered wreaths and swirling motifs in the red border, fine crosshatch quilting in the lavender section, and concentric circular patterns radiating from the center of the red diamond. The overall effect is bold yet balanced, with precise geometry softened by richly textured quilting stitches. The quilt hangs flat against a plain wall, with slight rippling along the edges that highlights its handcrafted construction.

Handmade quilt composed of nine large square blocks arranged in a three-by-three grid. Each block features a dense checkerboard pattern made of very small alternating squares in shades of cream, brown, black, red, and muted pink. Within each large square, the checkerboard shifts in color intensity to create a subtle concentric or medallion-like effect, with darker or warmer tones toward the center and lighter tones radiating outward. The blocks are separated by narrow sashing strips in red and gold tones that form a cross shape across the quilt. A coordinating red and brown border frames the entire piece. The overall effect is richly textured and visually intricate, with a warm, earthy color palette and a slightly wavy bottom edge as it hangs against a plain wall.

Loving all the striped patchwork in this quilt by Tomie Nagano that I saw at the American Folk Art Museum quilt show. All 3 were pretty amazing.

Managed to make it to see the quilts. Really love the last one from Gee's Bend.
