The episodes were McCoy and Spock grow closer are some of my favorites in TOS, but holy shit did they write him as a bigot.

It's really neat that I get to be one of the weirdos who lives in your phone. Here to post about scifi, TTRPGs, politics, civics and other nerd shit. On a quest to be the world's OK-ist swordsman. Profile from: https://star-trek-dumb-comics.tumblr.com/

They tried to make her a McCoy, but she didn't get the time to wear the edges off, and it came across as more bigoted. Hell, McCoy got away with more than was reasonable, but that was 1967, not 1988.
...I count four full professors in relevant fields following you, and that's just from who I follow.
A degree is just a measure of learning and discussion, signs point to you doing it more right than not.
The cost of meeting net zero is less than a single fossil fuel price shock, the UKβs official climate adviser said. The average household energy bill increased by 59% if fossil fuel use was maintained, but by only 4% if progress to decarbonise is made. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Sponsored by Kelly of Arizona and Blumenthal of Connecticut? I know who I'm putting in my 'doesn't know ball' tier of 2028 hopefuls until further notice.
I seem to have internalized it, other than the increasing frequency of realizing that I am, in fact, the adult in the room, and nobody adultier is going to show up, more's the pity.
One of the challenging dynamics about social media is that it is categorically stupid to talk openly about meaningful anti-government organising, but then that leaves a vast space for the doomers to fill up with "why isn't anyone doing anything!?"
For some additional background, @miawong.bsky.social went over some of the economic fuckery to expect from the Strait of Hormuz being mined:

The weird one would be if this is the domino that gets chip manufacturers to claim act of God to no longer be able to fulfill AI chip contracts, popping the AI bubble.
I'm not smart enough to be betting on this one, but I'm putting this out here just in case I end up being right, lol.
Taiwan and South Korea power their chip making on LNG.
Oh it's gonna get more than 18 cents more expensive long before this is over.
Surreal how the shit is hitting the fan and yet so far my life hasnβt been impacted. So half my brain is recoiling at the impending social-ecological collapse of the Middle East and half is thinking about how Chikorita is a good PokΓ©mon because it combines the best elements of a dog and a banana.
Another one: It'd be neat to riff off the werewolves and run with All The Ways You Can Be Cursed.
I think people overuse terms like 'censorship' and 'policing' when talking about online spaces. I think there have to be other ways to protect kids than doxxing the entire internet. I also think it's weird to ban kids outright from using the internet.
Seems like overcorrection all around.
I did not anticipate that running the whole infrastructure would be this (relatively) cheap. That's really cool.
Guaranteeing manufacturing (especially chips and aluminum) is fucked and we can't satisfy fertilizer demand for this year's growing season.
Buckle up, it's going to get spicy.
An example setting could also be a good time!
All of this sounds incredible and I can't wait to see it.
Sounds great! If you want a second stat, consider willpower/listlessness? You can change reality with your mind. What gives you the power to manifest your ideal on the world? Conversely, what happens when that voice tells you to do it all the fucking time?
Also, this system might be the best way to implement Mage that I've seen.
Hey #VTM, I just got done reading Vermillion Vespers (link below) and you should check it out. It feels like the next step after V5, if you want to write a dark story of a monster trying to keep some brand of humanity. Less combat, more grey decisions and consequences.
I am truly impressed by the mechanics around making murder the absolute last solution you want to use. Creativity gives better story and doesn't make half the fucking game be bouncing your spreadsheets off each other.
If the American investing class wanted to make money, the fuckstains wouldn't have chosen a fascist to burn the seedcorn while putting their money in a gaslighting simulator bubble. Sucks to suck.
The US increases being a services economy over making stuff, the money still sticks around and maybe is less of a share of world GDP but not by much, and the upper class more or less stay the same?
Boy will they be performatively pissy about it though.
For that kind of money you could start buying into renewables and come out of the transition with a stable income...or you can maximize profits in the short term, at the low, low price of fucking over everyone on the planet for a future so long out we don't have solutions to the problems yet.
There's a little part of me that just wants to inhale a box of Swiss Cake Rolls at any given point.
My plate with leafy greens, carrots, pickled banana peppers, olives, avocado, mozzarella, cucumber, tomatoβs and hard boiled eggs.
Dinner tonight is a chopped garden salad with hard boiled eggs, avocado and fresh mozzarella dressed with hot honey mustard dressing, parmesan and seasoned breadcrumbs. ππ½οΈπ

AOC came out swinging against age verification legislation and somehow the entire tech press seems to not have noticed?
I say this every year, but:
The uni students I'm teaching are thoughtful, intelligent, will make everything they encounter better.
With a new addition for 2026:
They deeply hate AI.
