Five water companies can raise bills by 2.2%, UK competition authority rules Permission comes on top of 24% average increase previously given by industry regulator Ofwat

Just outrageous - water bills up AGAIN while sewage spews

There is no competition
There is no market

Privatisation is wasteful - it can only be propped up by increasing your bills

From mandatory ID cards to arresting pensioners for holding up cardboard signs to cosy deals with US tech spy firms:

It's good to see lawyers pushing back on their increasingly authoritarian Govenrment.

We must protect jury trials.

Professional services staff keep our universities running.

They deserve a fair pay aware instead they've been offered a pay cut (on top of years of below inflation pay rises).

✊ Solidarity to all our on the picket lines this week!

UoB staff on strike round 2: 10th and 11th March 2026

UoB staff on strike round 2: 10th and 11th March 2026

Quote from Carla Denyer:

"Solidarity with Unison workers at the University of Bristol, who are striking against a 3.4% real terms pay cut. Since 2009, higher education pay has lost around 28% of its value. Meanwhile, low-paid workers have borne the brunt of the crisis in higher education funding.

This strike is important for Bristol. University of Bristol workers make up a significant proportion of the city’s workforce – at 4.8%. I also have a personal connection to this issue – many of my friends either currently work in universities, or have left, due to unmanageable working conditions. Workloads can’t keep increasing while wages are dropping.

I’m proud to have supported striking University of Bristol workers since I was a local councillor, and to have joined them on picket lines across the years. I echo their demands: it's time for University workers to be paid fairly."

I’ll be there for two reasons: Pay and Redundancies. (1/5)

Polanski has caused a political earthquake. The old parties are falling into the abyss. Can the Greens replace Labour and defeat Reform?

Birmingham wants more Green Councillors who turn up, listen to residents and get issues fixed.

Labour's attempt to remove our right to a jury trial in thousands of cases - including protest related offences - is a serious attack on our civil liberties.

That's why the Green MPs have tabled an amendment to reject it.

The Green Party says no to Labour's toolkit for tyrants.

Solidarity with staff at several UK universities today on strike over yet another (well) below-inflation offer.

After years of real-terms pay cuts, another pay cut is an insult. University staff deserve better.

If you're near a picket line please support, or send a message! @unisoninhe.bsky.social

In 60 days, the UK will head to the polls.

No, it's not a General Election.

It's the Local Elections including the Scottish and Welsh elections.

Here’s what you can do to help get Greens elected:

1) Join @greenparty.org.uk or @scottishgreens.org

Labour say their economic plan is working.

Who for?

Families trying to put food on the table? Renters facing yet another rent hike? Billpayers lining the pockets of water company shareholders?

It's time for the Government to get real on the cost of living crisis.

Yet another reminder of how vulnerable our reliance on fossil fuel makes us, and how absurd it is that the UK artificially links the retail price of cheap, clean renewables to expensive, dirty gas.

Refugee status to be temporary as Shabana Mahmood rips up rules on UK asylum Home secretary announces 30-month protection limit, with refugees required to leave if their home countries are later judged safe

These plans are cruel and immoral. Refugees deserve to be able to rebuild their lives instead they'll have to live in uncertainty for years.

The Gorton and Denton by-election showed that voters don't like these policies either.

Last year from January to June 471 people were killed or seriously injured on the roads in Birmingham, UK- and that was celebrated as an 18% reduction on the year before. Population is bigger than Brussels (9 deaths) but smaller than Berlin (55 deaths). We have so much further to go.

Really concerned to hear the Defence Secretary refuse to rule out UK's involvement in future strikes on Iran.

Iraq lessons must be learned.
Further escalation in the Middle East makes us all less safe.

Starmer must rule out UK involvement immediately.

This is an illegal, unprovoked and brutal attack that shows once again that the USA and Israel are rogue states.

The UK must end our cosy relationship with the USA and our ongoing support for Israel.
