I fantasise about buying the apartment next to ours and putting a door between them and devoting a bedroom to books
Iβve done the same myself!
We do (finally) own the place weβre living in, but I still have maybe 1000 books in boxes under the stairs. There are only so many walls.
... without stacking horizontally, for this is an abomination and hated in the sight of the gods.

New gecko just dropped, and he has the same look on his face I've had for every waking hour of the last three months.

Conan paperback cover featuring the painting.
Things are terrible but got to visit this painting in person recently. It was smaller than I expected. Really amazing though - a masterpiece. Itβs not just the thews. Itβs the color and design. We owe Frazetta a lot in very basic ways.
A hand holding a paperback copy of a collection of Conan stories, and the front cover shows Conan with a dagger fighting an ape man of sorts. This was originally a painting by Frank Frazetta.

Itβs such an absurd legal decision. Did they talk to a single psychologist?
Thanks to everyone who threw me a bone.
More bones are most welcome. Iβll assemble a bookcase with them.
Even if AI could write a novel what problem has been solved? The problem of knowing what youβre reading was written by another person? Who loves reading novels but hates the part where your mind briefly and mysteriously touched another?

What Monty Python said with mockery, I say in earnest.
It might seem absurd to link this to fascism, but suppressing gender & sexual diversity is a key part of the fascistic movement.
SUPPORT, NOT SUPPRESSION.
Nasty stuff, this.
Transgender folk exist. They always have & always will. Their existence harms nothing & nobody.
We ought to support them to live with pride & dignity.

About eight years ago, I got paid $1000 to write an essay on Conan β then I presented that essay as a workshop at the Edinburgh Book Festival.
That felt like *my* golden age, rather than anything more generalisable.
Itβs also not knowledge, which is annoying. Itβs just text. Thatβs it.
βA.I. chatbots contain the sum of all human knowledgeβ is so egregiously wrong that I donβt know what to say.
Chatbots have been trained on corpus of digital(ised) text - ABSOLUTELY NOT the sum of all human knowledge. Paper, experience, embodiment, oral tales all missing.
These people are fools!
If I were bringing to a close my time as the leader of a federal party, I simply wouldnβt say such things.
But Iβm built different.
What a message to resign with:
βObviously [these Iranian soccer players are] coming from a region where there was tyranny and we want to make sure that they don't bring any of those values to Australiaβ¦.β
Good riddance, mate.
