Decided to lock in and upgrade our monolith from React 17 -> 18 this week. Turned out to be a great way to experiment with AI multithreading. Some steps must be sequential but some can be broken up and executed in parallel with Claude Code web

You can now use Claude Code to bring designs back into Figma!!! π Very excited for this, ty @figma.com

Getting close to voice dictating work to Cursor/Claude tbh. Typing is hard π₯΄
Trying to write some blog posts this year to share knowledge as I build. Been building a lot with Mastra so will be sharing some thoughts about it. Kicking off with a comparison between Mastra vs. AI SDK since it may not be super clear at first glance

I have my team do this but we are (relatively) small. Though, the team is not exactly focused on just design systems but rather frontend platform, which does include design systems. Mutually useful because products improve and we bring home feedback
Also have been organizing a bunch of our components since we still use a gigantic components folder lol
Codex and Claude Code Web have been so killer for design system migrations in the codebase. We were already actively involved in component rollouts but now we can feasibly drive it to completion π₯°
e.g. Converging and improving on a single shared AGENTS.md ensures everyone benefits from better repo context and rules
Good DevEx (scripts and tooling) for your repos make it easier for everyone using AI tools (Cursor, Codex, Claude Code) to operate in it. e.g. Linters can go a long way
I started our react-router v6 upgrade literally 1 year ago. Finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel π
OK, IM BACK. How is everyone
Planning to seriously evaluate it for our org soon! Figma price has gotten out of hand
Somehow my road as a design engineer/technologist always takes me back to icons and fonts...
Every organization is different. If one side is behind, that means that side isnβt convinced that itβs a priority. A design engineer might be able to help because they have the technical know-how to make it work for the org + a mandate for design priorities. Doesnβt need to be an outside hire!
Are there any coding interview tools that work great for engineers, candidates, AND recruiting? Finding that all of them kind of suck (and are super expensive) and I'd personally rather just use @codesandbox.io for our interviews
Didnβt realize this needed to be said but please donβt cold text/call for a job. Thatβs a personal boundary for most people.
Today I got 3 cold emails, a text, a call, and a voicemail from a job seeker all within the span of 1 hourβ¦
Weβre hiring a Principal (P5) UX Designer in Boulder, CO (not remote). Itβs a design system role but also involves product patterns + frameworks. We need someone with strong visual skills who can also work on strategy. If it seems like a good fit, LMK.

Longer term: Good experiences will always need a human touch because they are used by humans. Use GenAI as a tool to accelerate your workflow and your learning. Focus less on how you will become obsolete and more on how you can become superhuman with AI.
Short term: While GenAI can be impressive, it still sucks at creating UI if you need to go out of bounds of boilerplate UI. Complex UI (or a complex context) is still hard.
Even with GenAI, you still have to understand the difference between good and bad output.
So many aspiring designers and frontend engineers have told me that theyβre scared that AI will replace them.
To that I say: βReports of my death are greatly exaggeratedβ
Itβs a thing in SF for some odd reason to take shots of Fernet. Iβm not sure anyone likes it. Feels more like hazing than anything π
McDonaldβs fries with Red Robin seasoning
Astro just keeps getting better! Looking forward to upgrading our new marketing site to Astro 5.0 π
I see mobile assets are still very much a pain π¬ Is iOS any better these days?
4 years later - seems like itβs about time for another personal website rebuild
This time with AI + Astro π
Bluesky feels like such a breath of fresh air π₯°
