I call on the Australian government to #RaiseTheRate of all support payments to a living wage.
This would be the single most effective way to lift the productivity, quality of life, and well-being of the whole country.

When Australia elected the Albanese Labor Govt, we were hoping for principled, progressive politics. Even as they increased their majority in the 2025 election, Albo's Govt moved even further to the Right, embracing angry, authoritarian rhetoric in their support for #Israel and the #USA. πŸ˜” #auspol

The newly amalgamated Adelaide University brings utter shame upon itself in its first months of operation.

In a statement following this shocking act, it risibly claims it is a place where "exchange of ideas can happen freely".

Not if the ideas include a defence of the remaining Gazans, it seems.

Story on The Australian front page:

Israel’s deadliest day: Nine die in public shelter in Beit Shemesh struck by Iranian missile
Volunteer medic Ronit Elimelech rushed her elderly mother and three children to the shelter as sirens wailed, instinctively grabbing her vest and the medical equipment she’d used to save countless lives. It wasn’t enough to save her own.

All civilian deaths are tragic, but we're getting a real sense of whose lives are valued more.

If The Australian had run this story for Gaza it would have had to do it more than 8,000 times.

Never mind one for the around 150 children killed in a Tehran school just this week...

The costs of this Iran war debacle will likely be more than the cost of extending the ACA health insurance subsidies.

If you asked Americans, which do you want: another war in the Middle East or lower health care costs at home, is the margin 90 to 10? 95 to 5?

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.
Sahar Delijani, Iranian author

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

Sahar Delijani said it best:

We are deeply concerned by the situation in Iran.
Our first thoughts are with the people caught up in this conflict - in Iran, in the countries in the wider region, and the New Zealand families worried about loved ones.

We recognise the courage of Iranians who have taken to the streets demanding change, at enormous personal risk and we condemn the serious human rights violations that have been perpetrated against them. Military escalation does not produce the stability the region needs.

The attacks on Iran and the retaliatory strikes undermine international peace and security and put civilian lives at risk.

New Zealand must urge all parties - including close allies - to show restraint, pursue diplomatic solutions and first and foremost, protect the rights and safety of Iranian civilians.

New Zealand must use its voice on the world stage to call for de-escalation, for a return to negotiations, and for the right of the Iranian people to determine their own future.

That’s a proper Labour/Labor party statement from Chris Hipkins, leader of New Zealand Labour.

Speaks to values, values of peace, international law, and the values of the people of Aotearoa.

Aotearoa New Zealand is a country with a big heart, this is how I’m used to that place responding.
