It's been pointed out, often enough, that the reason AI can't do art or writing is that it's incapable of (simulated) teleological thinking.
I'm beginning to think that AI advocates are also incapable of teleological thinking.
before you take any of the "Trump is pivoting/lamenting/lowering the temperature after the Pretti murder" stories too seriously, absolutely nothing has changed in Minneapolis: "an absolutely brutal day of raids and abductions" says one friend
Washington state is about to ban noncompete agreements.
The state's House and Senate have both signed the bill, and it's headed to the governor's desk.
Washington would join a short list of states that prohibit almost all noncompetes.
You say this RIGHT as I spot the typo in the first post.
I mean, I don't think it matters who does it better, or longer. Someday I won't be around to do it anymore, and someone else were carry on, and that's fine. Work like chopping wood or planting crops, like telling the stories and keeping the fire burning: it just needs someone willing to do it.
This whole thread is a real good argument for why I do the work I do, and which I inherited from @khaki.dog.
Because any story could be the story that does this, for someone.
Reminder that "Of Late Belonging," "At First Belonging," "The Young Man Who Knew Where He Was Going" and The Voice of Dog itself are nominated for these.

Writing and art assets are complete and @itomaisfuzzy.bsky.social has started the process of coding.
Stay tuned.

No, she didn't. She doesn't exist.
Iβve lost housing. Desperately seeking a new living situation. I donβt have anywhere to stay so this is really scary for me.
Any space for rent requires a deposit. I am now urgently seeking help with 800 for a deposit so I can get into new housing asap.
800 needed.

LET'S PLAY A GAME
For every preorder I get today*, I'll post one picture + fun story of one (or more) of these magnificent floofs
*Draft2Digital isn't showing me preorders so you'll have to send a pic of your receipt if you order somewhere other than Kobo or Itch
I went on a nostalgic bender this weekend, revisiting ASB and Circles and finally got around to reading @aethan.bsky.social's excellent concluding novel.
Haven't cried like that in years. Not only for the feels of the stories, but also for the person I used to be, when these comics first came out.
Made my calls this morning. Talked to one very nice person, left voice mails at the other two. Pretty easy. Please take 10 minutes out of your day to do the same. Thanks!
Intentionally blurred book cover, featuring largely blue colours and portraits of several figures in the middle.
Coming soon...
It scores zero, because any AI sample is, by definition, not writing.
But that's what you're trying to desperately prevent people from realizing.
nah fuck this bill, this bill is ass in all ways. And this is where every motherfucking trans person gets to say "i told you so" because its always always always been said that this is where anti-trans rhetoric will lead, to regulating every aspect of self-expression.
Weβve submitted hundreds of PIRs & what we're finding isn't surprising. We repeatedly warned the TX legislature that these laws would cause significant harm. But we're never not astounded at the stupidity of what's being removed from libraries. We'll be sharing our findings over the coming months.
Anyway even if you don't comm me please fucking call about it and make as much noise as possible. Seriously. Enlist every normie you possibly can.

If this "claude" were conscious--it isn't, of course, but if it were--the only ethical choice would be to kill it.
That's incredible and if you ever feel like writing up a whole writerly anecdotal Thurber/Rabelais autobiography-version of it I would be first in line to narrate because holy shit.
If you're interested, "Of Late Belonging" is eligible for Novel, "At First Belonging" for Novella, and "And Still He Runs," "Brewed Out of Blood," and "Though Ocean Waves May Sever" are eligible for Short Story.
There's several from the UK, the president is from Germany, there's one guy I know from Madagascar...
Hey there, just a mention that Iron Ark, the sequel to The Dry Spell is out in paperback from @furplanet.com with an e-book release coming in the near future. Thanks for your consideration!
Clearly his preferred style of governance is "lurching from one crisis to the next without ever resolving any of them" so it's just a matter of something else coming up.
Is that that one ICE agent everyone was making fun of?
In my game PtS, you play an agent of an organization of supernaturally empowered adventurers working to protect, preserve, and reclaim magic, mystical artifacts, and monsters on behalf of and as part of the cultures they belong to. Think BPRD meets anticolonial Indiana Jones in a pulp universe.
If KOSA passes it will fundamentally change how we are able to interact and use the Internet.
KOSA must not pass.
Basically, take the amount of money you think your favorite author gets, halve it, and then halve it again, and you have a number that's probably a lot closer to their actual earnings from writing.
"But I don't think they make that much!"
Halve that. Halve it again.
Hey, so, maybe go get my books on Subscribestar or @bewerebooks.bsky.social if you want them.
@itchio.bsky.social cannot be trusted.
