Screenshot of a Twitter post by user ninetiredbugs in March 2021 that reads: ok the problem with thinking "it's been a really tough week! Why shouldn't I get myself a little treat" is that it's been at least 53 rough weeks in a row and the amount of little treats I now require to feel baseline happy is accelerating at a terrifying pace
This post remains scarily accurate even 5 years later.

the thing is that
this is so funny
and they're all walking around miserably in shoes that don't fit and they deserve it
but also, it's not funny
because this is the same crumbling brain that is issuing orders to kill people about a hundred different ways every day

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

#LunarEclipse FAQ:
Q: Is it safe to look at?
A: Absolutely! Unlike a solar eclipse, there's no UNsafe time to look at a lunar eclipse.
Q: Do I need a telescope?
A: Nope! Best view is with naked eye. Just look up!
Q: Does the eclipse portend terror & doom?
A: Not at all! The news has that covered.

I am firmly anti-war, but I find it maddening that people will switch in an instant from talking about the structural nature of injustice and the evils of the prison system to individually blaming every poor 18-year-old who got groomed by a military recruiter for the entire weight of the empire

The screenshot of the release notes reads:
A new version of TeX Live Utility is available!
TeX Live Utility 1.55 is now available-you have 1.54. Would you like to download it now?
Release Notes:
Changes Since 1.54
β’ Fix bug 137, homepage link in Help Book.
β’ First release in a long time, since I don't use TeX anymore and resent the very idea of paying Apple annually for the privilege of giving away free and open-source software. Also, I'm really lazy. Please accept my apologies for all the annoying issues you've encountered in this mission-critical software.
β’ Updated mirror list, which was three years out of date.
β’ Added missing legacy mirrors, which was even more out of date.
β’ Added an alert on startup when user tries Homebrew's lobotomized MacTex, because those lunatics left timgr but removed its database.
Thanks for nothing, guys. Bug 142 and 144.
β’ Use a custom user-agent to work around the Anubis bot trap on texlive.info. Can't wait to see what else breaks because of this, thanks to the profusion of degenerate Artificial Insemination fetishists scraping websites to feed their models.
β’ Lists of countries in Repository/Continent are now sorted. No idea how you people let me get away with that one for the last fifteen years.
There's a "is anyone even reading this" sort of honesty you get in the software update release notes from a project that's been around for a long time.

I don't loudly express how anti-AI I am at work. Two co-workers admit they use ChatGPT to help them write code.
One day, our test web server was down and it took ALL I had not to ask, "Is your AI-written code the reason the server's down?"
It was. While I can't block co-workers. Sometimes I wish.

The drunk uncle theory.
You donβt argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows thereβs safe people and better possibilities out there

The other night on Jeopardy, two players were tied going into final. The woman in third made a small wager and her answer was, "I hope they both bet everything." They both did, all three got it wrong, and she won. As if that wasn't already hilarious enough, turns out it was all a master plan!

So any time they need to hide a crime they think the solution is to go FULL OVERLOAD and shut down the whole area, or shout loudly, or shoot something.
Then at the end of the level they'll get a medal or something.
It's government by Call of Duty cutscene methodology. And it doesn't work IRL.

I don't mean this in an "OMG Dead Cat!!!" way. I mean it literally.
They are spectacularly bad at hiding crimes. Because the minions they've put into the crime-hiding positions are all true believers who's entire knowledge of crisis management comes from playing Call of Duty single player campaign.

Something to remember with the current US administration is that they're not bad at doing crimes. They're bad at HIDING crimes.
So if they do something sudden, obvious and unexpected it is almost certainly an attempt to hide a crime (ongoing or planned), while failing spectacularly at that goal.

No, we want it fucking gone, you useless coward.
Ross recorded *himself* murdering Renee Good, wtf do you think body cameras will do to stop them.
The problem isn't that they're doing bad things in service of a good core mission, its that the mission itself is bad and lends itself to atrocities.
