This week, Discord will begin enforcing E2EE on non-stage voice and video calls across desktop, mobile, web, and consoles. Took a few years to solve the edge cases and wait out deprecation times for older clients, but we're here. Really proud of the team today!

I have a lot of thoughts on AI. It's a powerful tool and, like any power tool, requires skilled operators to use it well.
Yeah, that should have been clearer in our message for sure. We have since updated things to call out that age verification information is not used for advertising and we do not sell data (which has been our decade old stance.)

Just to confirm what @rahaeli.bsky.social is saying -- I am the VP of Core Tech at Discord and I am accountable for the Safety Engineering team (and more.) I'm very involved in this work and I'm also somewhat a Redditor and have experience with user pushback on a social service, so I volunteered.
They will and that's alright. The general goal was to get the clarified message out and have it be discoverable, but I know for sure that it's not going to change the tenor of the conversation in the moment.
