completely with you. it’s hard af being covid conscious/pandemic aware AND non-white in craft spaces. i joined my local weaving guild and i’m dreading the first meeting. thankfully it’s hybrid, but that doesn’t solve the whiteness part…

i’m not paid to pontificate on what ifs and frankly a lot of those who are sell an idea of only ever organizing in the abstract, ignoring as real world emergencies unfold around them. go do something lovely and meaningful today instead of doomspiraling about what you already know will be bad.

it doesn’t have to be fiber craft, it can be anything. making practical, everyday items is a meaningful practice that more of us need to get back to.

knitting, crocheting, spinning are all literally free, naturally built in EMDR therapy. these are the ways that we build both individual and communal connection on a nervous system/soul level.

i know folks are grieving the loss of our online spaces, but we also need irl hobbies and handcrafts are right there waiting for us. crafting is an intrinsic part of our human experience, and more of us need to get back to that.
