At the meeting, I talk about Good Boss/Bad Boss/Sad Boss as the kind of menu of tactics the company will draw from. I said some version of a thing I have now said thousands of times in meetings and house calls: Good Boss is when they buy off or try to buy off workers, with favors and fixes or even pay raises, to quell the anger that drives the organizing, to make it seem as though workers don't need a union after all. Bad Boss is when they terrify or try to terrify workers through threats, like plant closure and rumors like "Wherever the union goes, Immigration follows," so that fear overpowers the driving anger. Sad Boss is when they play the strange game of pretending to suffer a deep, personal heartbreak as the result of workers deciding to organize, in hopes that the workers' anger will be confused or blunted by empathy for the boss.

Genuinely the best description I've ever seen about how CEOs and bosses respond when you try to form a union or improve the workplace.

From Daisy Pitkin's book - On The Line: Two Women's Epic Fight to Build a Union.

That face cut-out card is such a great design!

If you haven't been back at the Oratory in while, it's worth it to check out again. They've renovated quite a bit. I went a few weeks ago to the church and chapel, but I want to go back soon to check out the updated exhibits closer. They looked quite lovely! 🥰

Honestly, sounds like a cozy evening. Throw a glass of wine or a joint in there and it's full cozy.

Moreover, I hate that in saying this, I'm playing right into the landlords' wishes. Of course they want everyone to be scared to contest unfair increases.
The reality is that right now they have all the power over your shelter, so you have good reason to be scared.

And while the city asks tenants to take on this burden, they stay safe from any political risk themselves. Just asking poor people to do their dirty work for them.

This is actually crazy, because as much I applaud people for using their rights to fight back, everyone knows that atp if your name gets on the TAL records, no other landlord will ever rent to you again. 😕
The city is asking tenants to take on an extraordinary risk.
