unironically a lot of people looove the axe in early game but as far as I can tell if you know how to use a buckler you can dog walk any axe user

it is also way easier if you have an understanding of medieval weaponry and what does what and why.
from what I can gather it scales like
- early game; buckler and blade of some kind
- early mid; long sword or spear.
- late mid; polearm
- late; pollaxe
