generally the quality of king's writing doesn't do much for me, but you're right, the writing is solid, and an especially big step up from the earlier books. what stood out to me was how many weird, creative ideas he (relatively) coherently mashes up in that last stretch
stephen king’s fourth dark tower book follows up about 700 pages of meticulous, plodding exposition with 200 pages of ridiculousness that could only come from the mind of a madman. I didn’t enjoy the experience of reading most of the book. yet by the end I loved it
