Ok, a combination of ADHD brain not vibing and needing to return books to the library means I am putting down both MORTAL FOLLIES and PARIS DAILLENCOURT. But I still have REALLY CUTE PEOPLE by Markus Harwood-Jones for another week, so thatβs what weβre reading instead!

*sigh* ADHD brain sometimes makes it difficult to do something like make a thread about all the books Iβm reading this year, because itβs never going to stay in a tidy, linear list. Which is to say, Iβm still making my way through MORTAL FOLLIES (enjoying it my brain is just working slowly), andβ¦

House Republicans have just introduced a bill that would result in a NATIONWIDE book ban. Oh, the bill is also specifically transphobic. Contact your House Rep and ask them to publicly oppose this legislation. A few more thoughts in the thread about this action. bookriot.com/hr7661-book-...

Lest we forget: the US now controls Venezuela's oil, which is EXTREMELY low-quality and hard to sell. They essentially tortured the people of Cuba into buying their lousy stolen oil oil. (And bombing Iran will likely close the Strait of Hormuz, further increasing the value of the lousy stolen oil.)

This is what I need cis folks to understand.
It's been a decade.
Imagine living TEN FUCKING YEARS watching as a blatant, artificial campaign to erase your personhood, your identity and your safety chugs along, increasing in power every single day, and most people don't care or dismiss it

I understand why prison abolition is controversial but I donβt think you can get away from the fact that the most passionate prison abolitionists work closely with incarcerated people or were incarcerated themselves. The more you know about the logistics of incarceration the more you hate it.

Since Cass is again making the rounds for expounding on all the ways we might make fewer trans kids, hereβs a piece on how this discourse erases the lives of trans people doing extraordinary specifically because they embraced who they are. Whose rich lives wouldnβt have happened in the closet.

I literally saw a post two weeks back in which a guy with two jobs was flagellating himself because he was short on rent, lamenting that had he donated plasma more, maybe his rent would be on time. This system is deeply fucked. Earth is a pleasure cruise for 1000 people and we're all just the staff.

A picture of the cover of a hardcover copy of Blood Over Bright Haven by M. L. Wang. The cover features a typewriter like instrument outlined in gold, topped by a circular image of deep red flame.
Yβall, can I just recommend a book to you (again)? BLOOD OVER BRIGHT HAVEN by M. L. Wang is an incredible reading, and a terrifyingly terrific metaphor for the world we find ourselves in right now. Read it.
