A solitary bee resting on the cut edge of a hollow bamboo twig that's part of a bee home on a wall.
The sun is out and the solitary bees are busy around the various bee homes on the south facing wall. I just performed a rescue of one that had got caught and mummified in spider silk. They can be so patient whilst I poke with tweezers. It's flying free again now.

Absolute grief.
Can't face the closing ceremony, just salt in the wounds.
But have noted Wheelchair Curling on the calendar on 4th March & feel a warm glow of anticipation for the Paralympics.

February, and already cow parsley lifts pale lace into the air β a gentle curtsy forward.
On a rain-softened path, two white feathers lay side by side β ephemerally white, like angelsβ wings.
A blessing, it seemed.
How much grace lies in this: what rests before us, and the eyes that learn to see it.

Close view of a radiant white water lily floating on dark water, its layered petals open around a bright golden centre, surrounded by broad, glossy green lily pads.
A star looked down upon the earth and longed to gladden human hearts. Seeing a lake that mirrored the night sky, it slipped from the heavens into the dark water. By dawn it had become a radiant white water lily, its golden heart shiningβ a silent beacon of hope. #FolkloreThursday

A painting of a group of long-tailed tits sitting in a winter tree. The painting features the trunk and branches of a small tree with six long-tailed tits sitting among the branches. The background is blue and pink with some shimmery areas.
The Long-tailed Tit is easily recognisable with its distinctive blush, black and white colouring. It also has a tail which is bigger than its body, and a bouncing flight.
An original art work, please note that the frame is not included.
Watercolour and mixed media painting on acid free watercolour paper.
Approximately 6x8"(15.24 by 20.32 cm) will fit an 8x6" standard frame.

Northern Ireland remains the only part of the UK where wildlife can still be chased & killed by dogs. This cruel, outdated practice has no place in a modern, compassionate society.

A clear, crisp sunny day out in the garden seeing how things are faring. Tidied up around the back of the shed, finding pots & emptying buckets. Laid new stepping stones around the veg bed. Constantly accompanied by a robin then as dusk fell, the LOTTI posse joined us.

Flooded car park and pub garden
Sign pinned to a tree trunk directing drivers to an additional pub car park. It says "overflow car parking" and is surrounded by flood water.
Utterly brilliant sign in the car park at #TheFishes in North Hinksey. The Seacourt stream and the river Thames are indeed overflowing. Floodplains doing their thing.

Looking out over flooded water meadows towards a horizon delineated by tree skeletons, behind them is a light grey patch of sky where, perhaps, the sun is hidden.
An ancient coppiced willow stands guard over patches of snowdrops. Behind are flooded meadows reflecting the grey skies above.
There's such beauty in the watery grey of a rainy February day. Flooded water meadows & skeletal trees silhouetted against grey skies. I'll remember this during a summer drought. Beneath the ancient willows shelter masses of snowdrops.

A six-petalled star flower of Blackthorn against brown twigs & branches.
View across flooded water meadows where grey water reflects grey skies and electricity cables carried high above by pylons.
The first blackthorn flowers of the year that I've seen. Brightening a cold, bleak February day & surrounded by flooded water meadows. Lots of birds singing: Blue tits, wrens, robins, Song thrush, blackbirds and black headed gulls on the new lakes.

eBird Checklist - 9 Feb 2026 - Lye Valley & Warneford Meadow - 37 species
Submitted by Tom Bedford.
Inner city #patchgold this morning, with the first Woodcock since Nov 24 in Boundary Brook woods. My 7th Woodcock record in over 7 years, but the first outside of November/December. Perhaps an elusive wintering bird? π€―

It's a grey, chilly dusk with drizzle starting. The male blackbird is now singing strongly and is in battle with a robin. Below the bold duo is a scratchy, rusty warble: the Merlin app confirmed it to be a Blackcap. As yet unseen but claiming his territory. Spring approaches steadily.
