โbecause he is eloquentโ I doubt anyone has said Trump is eloquent, but says โwhat people want to hearโ is sadly too fucking true.

A bookish, menopausal, gardening misanthrope โ she/her I know the worldโs on fire in the US and Iโm doing my bit as best I canโt, but I also canโt absorb all the vile. Star Trek & Books are keeping me alive.
โbecause he is eloquentโ I doubt anyone has said Trump is eloquent, but says โwhat people want to hearโ is sadly too fucking true.
Itโs worse than that. As a former high school teacher: students will LEAP on AI like lions to a gazelle. Thinking is very hard. Having a tool that does the *thinking* for you? Hooray.
Result: theyโll never learn the critical thinking skills at all. They will voluntarily submit themselves to stupid.
I would love to see that! But Iโm convinced my high school French is not up to the task.
Such an outstanding season of writing. Powerfully moving. This piece by @geekyjules.julessherred.com really captures just how real, honest, and necessary the writing on this show has been.
Just after that scene, she continues talking to Darem and says something about knowing that Klingon-French fusion cuisine was something she never knew she needed in her life.
It seemed pretty blatant to me, but it appears it was subtle.
Ah Badmirals. Such common assholes.
I was out gardening today and I didnโt think I was in hell. It was amazing.
Extremely intelligent discussion of the divide in genders: @andizeisler.bsky.social
TNG leaning into the paragons motif pretty hard most of the time.
Also, this guy that many people donโt like to talk aboutโฆ
One last note: Iโd save the Tiffany Aching series for last. In my opinion itโs the series that most embodies what Pratchett wanted to say, but it wonโt hit as hard unless youโve read more of the rest of the books.
Many people go with the Death series because DEATH is a major character in the series. Personally the Witches are my favorite so Iโve reread Equal Rites many times and Witches Abroad many, many times. But if you like rough-edged Cops with good hearts, start with the Watch books.
A color-coded chart showing the interconnected mini-series breakdown of Pratchettโs novels. Itโs titled The Discworld Reading Order Guid 3.0
Thereโs a nifty chart a fan made. Iโll post it here. One of the best things about the series is that the books all talk to each other and link together, but they can be read as stand alones. Itโs a remarkable series in many ways.
Fair point! Thereโs a lot of books. Some people start on the first published book, but in my opinion, I think thatโs a mistake. He hadnโt really found his groove yet and the world wasnโt full fleshed out. I like to recommend people pick one set of characters and read their mini-series.
Correction: I meant the Irish-ish woman in TNG. That sweater boob-top haunts me. 13 year-old me was NOT ready for that.
*Caleb* is too sexualized? How about Kirkโs constantly ripped shirt?
Also, definite side eye from basically every woman in TOS, Deanna, Seven, TโPol, that Irish-ish woman in TOS, those Orion women in Enterprise, etc. etc. etc.
Canโt wait for this release. And thanks for another good read to check out!
I donโt hate you. Iโm just curious why? Iโve found SFA to be some of the best written Trek weโve Ever been given. Filled with trauma learning to have hope. Connections with real depth. Compassion and understanding. Itโs hit big in the feels for me and I wonder why it hasnโt for you.
In our current times, more peopleโmaybe all peopleโshould read Terry Pratchett. His works are a blessing of light in a world that wants to beat you down.
Mind how you go.
I tried to preorder the digital edition and couldnโt. Hopefully when weโre closer to the date @idwpublishing.com?

That was my brainโs response, too! Just in case so of you are young whippersnappers, behold the glory:
I just finished that comic. It was such a delight!
Cover art for Star Trek Lower Decks #17 comic. In an old arcade style Asteroids screen, we see our heroes shooting aliens and a large creepy ship.
A walloping good time! Iโm loving this series so much. Every page has its huge charms and its little secrets. Excellent stuff from @timsheridan.bsky.social, @vernondraws.bsky.social, @chrisfenoglio.bsky.social, @charliekirchoff.com, @claytoncowles.bsky.social, and @idwpublishing.com.
Gertrude Steinโs Susie Asado opening lines: Sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet tea. Susie Asado. Sweet sweet sweet sweet sweet tea. Sides Asado.
Our eraโs
Four samurai helmets. Bottom tier is an impressive dragon one and one with bullโs horns. The upper tier has a fairly standard one, but the second one is shaped like the stem end of an aubergine/eggplant!
The samurai helmets. The first is quite simple with a silver snake embellishment. The furthest on the right has a large butterfly on the brow. The middle one has edamame bean pods shaped like horns right smack dab in the middle.
I really enjoyed that exhibition. So many beautiful things. But also, this adorable aubergine/eggplant samurai helmet! Oh, and the one with edamame bean pods!
I got to see the London staging of it. Their puppet Totoro was operated by 12 people and it was amazing.
I know. I was there. Actually at the time I was working as a game designer on SOCOM: US Navy SEALs. We had to pull a level because the premise was some Arab terrorists had hijacked a small plane and crashed it. Hard to really state how fucked up that was.
