Was Jake Lang evaluating a teenage girl for a bikinis-and-burkas protest? Or was something more lecherous at play? What insane questions these people make us ask. ICYMI @willsommer.bsky.social: lnk.thebulwark.com/4sj5eYD

You know what? Fine, tech bros. You win. You get to do algorithmic pricing.
But in return, we get to do algorithmic taxing on everyone with a net-worth over $5million. As a little treat.
Never fund DHS again. Abolish it completely.
If someone wants to moan about "but but we have to ____" yeah fine we can discuss a new department, but *this* department has to go.
Cool cool cool
Donald Trump letting you know how the authoritarian capture of the media is going, in case you missed it. Unlike other authoritarians in places like Hungary and Poland he has no worries about advertising his authoritarian take over of the media.
Existence of Mamdani in the media criticism discourse is so useful because it demonstrates what the media could be doing to Trump if they ACTUALLY thought that he was an aberrant threat to our Republic. Not that you need to do this for Trump but: You can just write negative stories based on nothing!
"This technology disrupts humanities-trained — largely Democratic — voters."
More and more I want the consequences for the billionaires, politicians, appointees, and lackeys who are committing crimes for Trump to be devastatingly financial.
Take all their money. ALL OF IT. And garnish their wages forever. Let them live off of whatever UBI gets passed in the next admin.
these outlets want to be lied to, and they want to lie to their audiences. they truss it up with a lot of sanctimonious language about being open-minded and big-hearted; but it’s a business strategy masquerading as editorial principle.
if they did that, that would make their editors, and more to the point their editors’ bosses, uncomfortable. it would sound too biased. it would turn-off prospective advertises who want to be told your strategy is to appeal as broadly as possible. it would also make it harder to do access journalism
this is a key structural problem in how elite opinion journalism covers our politics. these folks don’t actually interact with the maga hoi polloi; and more importantly, *they do not want to do that* because if they did they’d have to admit - to themselves - that actual rank/fike MAGA are fashy.
there is a reason you rarely see op-eds from people who actually grew up around MAGA folks and in deep-red america *unless the angle is to chide liberal readers for a lack of empathy or understanding etc*
they don’t want pieces that say: i know these ppl. i lived with these ppl. they’re fash.
Well then welcome to the Streisand effect

The Most Divorced Men in History
Is there a link between hyper-divorced men and everything wrong in the country today?
Andrea Pitzer on what new research into "Protest Masculinity" tells us about the Trump Regime and risk-taking—and why losing makes losers escalate.

On Friday, I proudly joined the workers of the Nitehawk Union – the servers, runners, cooks, and bartenders who make it a real community movie theater – in their fight for a good union contract, with the wages they deserve & need to survive in this expensive city. (2/2)
I love the Nitehawk Prospect Park, which we helped rescue a decade ago, when it was abandoned and almost converted to condos. (1/2)
I had assumed the headline was a joke. But no.

Given the track record of this administration, I’m putting money on there being at least one typo on there too.
I monitor stuff on Twitter still, and I'm always floored how often the first reply to a post is "@grok, is this true."
Just existentially sad.
His whole life, Trump has always had someone else around to bail him out of the messes he creates: his father, Allen Weisselberg, the "adults in the room" in his first term. Now all those protectors are gone and he is openly begging for someone to save him from his own folly.
Also, HIGHER EDUCATION IS NOT AN ENTERPRISE!
And like, yeah we’re gonna keep seeing this big silicon valley companies doing layoffs. But look at e.g. Facebook the product, not the company.
Nothing fucking works, they have done almost no user-facing feature development in years, and they’ve employed thousands of people on moonshots
Trump, after instituting a completely transactional "America First" foreign policy, begs countries around the world to bail the US out of the mess it made for itself.
Esther puts Gotham up, 1–0, over Boston in the second half.
30,207 fans in attendance at Gillette Stadium 👏
Despite falling short to the reigning champions Gotham, Boston Legacy have already made NWSL history. What an atmosphere 🏟️
Index funds are so much more satisfying then regular gambling to me because if you lose money in slots it’s like ah shit that sucks but you never go back to the casino three years later and have more money.
I am truly so sad Ella Stevens got traded to Boston, and I want to see her do so so well.
Just not today?
Literally this
This isn't WWII when the Allies transport ship crews viewed themselves as part of the war effort and accepted the risk of their job. Nobody on an oil tanker currently sitting off the coast of UAE wants to die for Trump's war.
