This post is for all of you in every time zone all around the world.
I keep hearing that Bluesky is still mostly North American. But I think there’s lots of you around the world that love cities, and want them to be better.
We want @urbantruth.bsky.social to be global.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.
No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.
Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Striking images of Dutch bike infrastructure taken by @ModaCityLife.com
IMPORTANT: The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart governments do the math on investing in better mobility.
Let’s be clear— it WASTES public money to NOT do it.

Fourteen Studies That Find No Association Between Vaccines and Autism
Primary Research: Vaccines and Autism
1. Hviid A, Hansen JV, Frisch M, Melbye M. Measles, mumps, rubella vaccination and autism: a nationwide cohort study. Ann Intern Med. 2019;170(8):513-520.
This nationwide Danish cohort study of 657,461 children found no increased risk of autism associated with MMR vaccination, even among children at higher genetic risk for autism.
2. Madsen KM, Hviid A, Vestergaard M, et al. A population-based study of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination and autism. N Engl J Med. 2002;347(19):1477-1482.
In a cohort of over 500,000 Danish children, there was no association between MMR vaccination and the development of autism or autistic-spectrum disorder.
3. Taylor LE, Swerdfeger AL, Eslick GD. Vaccines are not associated with autism: an evidence-based meta-analysis of case-control and cohort studies.
Vaccine. 2014;32(29):3623-3629.
This meta-analysis of five cohort and five case-control studies (over 1.25 million children) found no relationship between vaccination - including MMR, thimerosal, or mercury - and autism or autism spectrum disorder.
4. Parker SK, Schwartz B, Todd J, Pickering LK. Thimerosal-containing vaccines and autistic spectrum disorder: a critical review of published original data. Pediatrics. 2004;114(3):793-804.
A systematic review of epidemiologic and pharmacokinetic studies concluded that thimerosal-containing vaccines are not associated with autism spectrum disorder.
Primary Research: Vaccines and Autism
5. Honda H, Shimizu Y, Rutter M. No effect of MMR withdrawal on the incidence of autism: a total population study. J Child Psychol Psychiatry. 2005;46(6):572- 579.
This Japanese population study showed that autism rates continued to rise after the withdrawal of MMR vaccine, refuting a causal link.
6. Fombonne E, Zakarian R, Bennett A, Meng L, McLean-Heywood D. Pervasive developmental disorders in Montreal, Quebec, Canada: prevalence and links with immunizations. Pediatrics. 2006;118(1):e139-150.
Analysis of autism prevalence in Montreal found no change in autism rates despite a decrease in MMR vaccination coverage, arguing against a vaccine- autism association.
7. DeStefano F, Price CS, Weintraub ES. Increasing exposure to antibody- stimulating proteins and polysaccharides in vaccines is not associated with risk of autism. J Pediatr. 2013;163(2):561-567.
A case-control study found no association between the total antigen exposure from vaccines in the first two years of life and the risk of developing autism.
8. Uno Y, Uchiyama T, Kurosawa M, Aleksic B, Ozaki N. The combined measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines and the total number of vaccines are not associated with development of autism spectrum disorder: the first case- control study in Asia. Vaccine. 2012;30(28):4292-4298.
This Japanese case-control study found no association between MMR vaccination or the total number of vaccines received and the development of autism spectrum disorder.
9. Price CS, Thompson WW, Goodson B, et al. Prenatal and infant exposure to thimerosal from vaccines and immunoglobulins and risk of autism. Pediatrics. 2010;126(4):656-664.
A US case-control study found no increased risk of autism associated with prenatal or early-life exposure to thimerosal-containing vaccines and immunoglobulins.
Primary Research: Vaccines and Autism
10. Smeeth L, Cook C, Fombonne E, et al. MMR vaccination and pervasive developmental disorders: a case-control study. Lancet. 2004;364(9438):963- 969.
This UK case-control study found no evidence of an increased risk of pervasive developmental disorders, including autism, following MMR vaccination.
Systematic Reviews: Vaccines and Autism
11. Gidengil C, Goetz MB, Newberry S, et al. Safety of vaccines used for routine immunization in the United States: an updated systematic review and meta- analysis. Vaccine. 2021;39(28):3696-3716.
This updated systematic review and meta-analysis for the AHRQ found high- strength evidence that the MMR vaccine is not associated with autism.
12. Maglione MA, Das L, Raaen L, et al. Safety of vaccines used for routine immunization of U.S. children: a systematic review. Pediatrics. 2014;134(2):325- 337.
A systematic review for the AHRQ concluded that the MMR vaccine is not associated with autism, based on high-quality evidence.
13. Dudley MZ, Halsey NA, Omer SB, et al. The state of vaccine safety science: systematic reviews of the evidence. Lancet Infect Dis. 2020;20(5):e80-e89.
This review summarized systematic reviews on vaccine safety, consistently finding no evidence of a link between vaccines and autism.
14. Halsey NA, Hyman SL. Measles-mumps-rubella vaccine and autistic spectrum disorder: report from the New Challenges in Childhood Immunizations Conference convened in Oak Brook, Illinois, June 12-13, 2000. Pediatrics. 2001;107(5):E84.
This expert panel report reviewed available evidence and concluded there is no credible evidence supporting a causal relationship between MMR vaccination and autism spectrum disorder.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍂🥧
Have some anti-vax family at your table?
Here is a summary of 14 studies that found no association between vaccines and autism.

If climate change was a planet killer comet or meteor hurtling towards Earth, we would probable figure out how to save ourselves. But, climate change is a slow death not a sudden one. And, we would rather let the planet die than lift a finger to save it for future generations.

If you really want to drive the point home about how fucked up ICE is then people should start forcing Star Wars themes on ICE. Protesters should start playing the imperial march whenever ICE shows up and should also start dressing like the rebel alliance.
