Peter Kyle should get out of Westminster and see how well his cowardice is received in Brighton & Hove.
I don't know how these ministers can wake up each morning and look at themselves in the mirror. They are a bunch of wooden, heartless cowards who care only for their own ambition. Peter Kyle does not speak for the people of Sussex. Shame on him.
BREAKING ๐จ: NHS workers reject pay offer by two-thirds majority
GMB members have voted 67% to reject the pay offered for 2025/26 in England - and demand a meeting with Streeting ๐
Performative disbelief is a tactic employed by western politicans too. Their "mistake" of launching the invasion of Iraq. Deindustrialisation. Austerity. You can bet your money that in years to come today's politicans will shed a tear and act the same when it comes to their genocide of Palestinians.
The audience is meant to forget that Oppenheimer was aware of the bomb's potential for mass murder. And to look past that these plucky bankers profited off the economic devastation of a generation. Their contrition is offered as ironic heroism. In reality they are villians in these stories.
Films about events such as Oppenheimer and The Big Short offer protagonists to be read as tragic albeit naive. Their heart was in the right place, but the system worked against them. But if you grapple with the consequences of their actions, they are more so displaying performative disbelief.
Revolutionary Suicide - Huey P Newton's memoir:
"Revolutionary suicide does not mean that I and my comrades have a death wish; it means just the opposite. We have such a strong desire to live with hope and human dignity that existence without them is impossible."
Hollow words from a hollow man.
A "grotesque spectacle"? It's a genocide, no need to mince words. Starmer, Lammy and this government are enabling a genocide, all the while having the audacity to pretend to be shocked.
Definitely! I feel like so much of this is bound up with a reluctance to acknowledge imperialism's effect on class interests, as well as the non-Marxist tendency to skew class definitions away from economic relations and towards cultural attributes.
Oh I see, you're one of those types. Yes, you must be _very_ intelligent and misunderstood I'm sure. I won't waste my time. I'll leave you to continue whatever it is you think you're achieving here ๐
I don't think anyone is surprised about the arrests. The point is that the proscription is not appropriate, and the arrests are highlighting that. People are rightly vexxed because it's an over reach by the state. There's no need to quibble over this sort of thing, who does it serve?
Working and oppressed people must not starve for the elites to keep cashing cheques and the politicians to play at war.
We must move past discussions on bourgeois ideas of borrowing and debt. The problem is capitalism and its leeching of profits and unnecessary waste from market competition.
At a certain point, capital will demand its return on investment for all the accumulated debt. And the state will enact austerity on a scale we have yet to see, alongside a continued authoritarian crack down on dissent.
Britain and France are going to lurch further and further to the right in the coming years. The economic foundations are set, and the commitment to 5% NATO defence spending surely all but locks it in.
It's important that as socialists we don't allow ourselves to get caught up in bourgeois economics of monetarism, MMT, Keynesian, etc. It all presumes capital's economic domination.
There is no use in arguments about "balancing the books" or "capital flight" when it's all based on the extraction of surplus value from workers.
Conversations about the British economy are stuck on just two options: budget cuts vs tax/spend. How about profit vs people, capital vs labour, and capitalism vs socialism?
Bannon and Musk perform similar roles for Trump as his international agents. Both simultaneously push the envelope of normalisation and rally fellow travellers.
And simultaneously, Labour chose to focus on the financial aspect of the proposed Northeye camp, rather than the inhumanity of such a camp. sussex.red/post/labours...

Or, in other words: finance capital is the only thing keeping the UK afloat right now, and British imperialism is threatened by the break up and decline of the US-led "rules-based order".

If you don't mind elaborating, I'd be interested in when you would say the previous attempt was?
Musk certainly serves as a good reminder that the bourgeoisie is not only comprised of various factions with differing (and increasingly) conflicting interests, but also that they are not always coherent interests.
Absolutely bonkers
